Job Summary

Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to staff according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and workflow analysis.

Consult extensively with researchers, program leadership, and administrators to plan, support the transition to, and enhance the usage of the IRB module of the Huron Research Suite implementation at UCSF. In this customer-facing role, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) System Supervisor works closely with ARS leadership, Business Partners, Research Administration and Compliance Systems (RACS) Program leadership, staff, and third-party vendors to collaborate on design and develop business process workflow to support use of the IRB functionality in the Huron system. The IRB System Supervisor will work with counterparts in ARS and other departments to collaborate on and direct activities which support the migration of legacy IRB data into the Huron Research Suite. In addition, they will act as the functional team lead on integrations with other systems.

The IRB System Supervisor utilizes agile and waterfall project management techniques and industry-standard best practices to support team operations and provide timely deliverables. They collaborate with peers and teammates to build on and continuously improve processes to manage work necessary to meet customer demand and in alignment with program and departmental goals. They act as the champion in ARS for the transition from current IRB systems and business processes to the Huron Research Suite.

The IRB System Supervisor provides oversight and mentorship to team members and contractors to ensure accurate and timely completion of work. They are responsible for leading team, customer, and project meetings. They interface with HRPP business owners and staff to develop appropriate support interfaces between ARS, HRPP, researchers, and other UCSF departments. The IRB System Supervisor oversees time tracking, time off requests, regular touch base meetings with team members, and responsibility for the annual performance evaluation process for their direct reports. They participate in ARS and IT management sessions and oversee work according to ITOM processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function.
  • Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
  • Has solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
  • Has solid knowledge of related principles and concepts to provide solutions to more complex and diverse information systems issues. Solid knowledge of the applications programming development function. Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical personnel.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate, and correct malfunctions involving technology systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices, and policies, including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
  • Knowledge of test application code in client server environment
  • Knowledge of conceptual database design.
