Job Summary

Provides clinical leadership for a team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within the Cancer Center service line. Manages Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) responsible for patient evaluation, testing, diagnosis, plans of care, and treatment within the Cancer Center Solid Tumor Medical Oncology practices both outpatient and inpatient at Mission Bay, Mt. Zion, the Berkeley Outpatient Center and Cancer Center San Mateo. As a manager, receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them. 15-20% of the role will require clinical work in the solid tumor medical oncology practices. The manager collaborates with the leads for the APP fellowship program in adult cancer services working in collaboration with the Office of Advanced Practice and the office of Nursing Excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in clinical area of study.
  • Holds a NPIII title or is a NPII or a Senior PA with progressive leadership in at least 5 of the following areas: Participates in the development, review, and revision of appropriate policies and Standardized Procedures relevant to their clinical environment; Identifies and participates in clinical/quality/process improvement projects; Precepts and mentors new APPs and/or APP students; Functions as a clinical resource to other clinicians; Participates in-service education and outreach programs; Is a member of a professional practice organization relevant to his/her area of specialty or practice; Actively participates in at least one unit based or hospital wide committee; Has presented at regional, national or international meeting on clinical topic relevant to his/her practice; Has authored, submitted an abstract, and/or published written materials such as book a chapter, educated opinion piece, or journal article.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to convey complex clinical information in a clear and concise manner. Serves as liaison between APPs, nursing, ancillary staff, and administrative staff regarding policy, operational, clinical practice issues. Collaborates with senior management on operational and performance issues and the development of new plans and programs to improve and integrate APP functions and systems across specialties, departments, and throughout the medical center. Participates in department and division meetings and committees.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources practices and policies. Ability to direct, organize, motivate and mentor staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of software and specialized applications used by advanced practice providers.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, develop reports and action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care as an Advanced Practitioner


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced experience in clinical specialty supervising APPs.
  • Advanced knowledge of legislative issues affecting advanced practice providers.
  • Ability to organize operations and implement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and national regulatory requirements.
  • Strong operational management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal, and operational management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.


License/Certification

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP and RN License) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of California.
  • National Board Certification in profession if engaged in clinical practice - ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC, AGNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C
  • BRN furnishing license and DEA license if engaged in clinical practice
  • Current AHA BLS
