Applies extensive knowledge as a research professional with an in-depth understanding of statistical and / or other analysis techniques designed to support research projects of broad scope and complexity. May function as a team lead.

The Alvira laboratories at the University of California San Francisco-Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Advanced Research Data Analyst with recognized expertise in the analysis and interpretation of single cell transcriptomic and other highly complex genomic data sets to lead the analytic support for numerous projects of broad scope and complexity. The Alvira laboratory performs early translational research using mouse models and human tissue samples to understand the molecular mechanisms that promote postnatal lung growth, and determine pathways that contribute to impaired lung development, lung injury and pathologic pulmonary vascular remodeling. The successful candidate would function with a high degree of autonomy to process high dimensional data, ensure the data meets high standards of quality and reproducibility, and use both existing computational platforms, and create new analytic platforms to both compile and interpret the data. It would be expected that the successful candidate would prepare data for scientific publications, and present data at national scientific conferences. This candidate would serve as the analytical team of the lab, serving to train students in postdoctoral fellows in basic computational analysis of bulk and transcriptomic data. This candidate would also be responsible for providing analytic consultation to several external collaborators.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $163,500 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • In-depth knowledge of research function
  • Advanced skills associated with statistical analysis, database management and programming with at least 2 years prior experience in the analysis of single cell transcriptomic datasets
  • Advanced skills in analysis and consultation
  • Advanced ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally, visually and in writing
  • Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team
  • Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest and most complex departments in the School of Medicine. The department is comprised of 18 divisions employing over 300 faculty, 83 fellows, 84 residents, 31 Post Docs and non-faculty academics and 170 staffs. The Department has annual clinical income from inpatient and outpatient activities totaling over $90 million and annual extramural funding (contracts and grants) exceeding $40 million. The department ranks 17th in the nation among Pediatric departments for funding from the National Institutes of Health.

The Department's clinical enterprise is based at the 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco, the 191-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Mount Zion, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, and at a number of outreach clinics throughout Northern California, providing the Department with an unsurpassed opportunity to meet the needs of infants, children, and young adults throughout the Bay Area. In 2019, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals ranked in all 10 children's specialties in U.S. News and World Report.

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine is part of the UCSF SOM Department of Pediatrics comprising of approximately 45+ faculty, 20+ fellows and non-faculty academics, and 20+ research staff and MSP physicians. It is located in Mission Hall at Mission Bay campus. Our physicians provides clinical coverage at BCH-SF and Oakland. We have research space at both Mission Bay and Parnassus campuses.
