Job Summary
The Neurology Department includes two Clinical Research Units that provide state-of-the-art clinical research space and support neuroscience clinical programs, including observational and investigational research studies. The Administrative Officer 3 position includes the autonomy and responsibility to manage, plan, and administer the operations of these research units while reporting to the Unit Directors. The incumbent also oversees the daily functions of up to 5 staff members who provide support for the administrative functions of the units. The AO3 is an experienced administrative professional who uses judgment and experience to resolve frequent challenges that arise when the campus research unit must meet or exceed all campus and health center policies. A broad knowledge of the function of the research units and associated departments allows the AO3 to analyze problems as they arise and devise/implement solutions. The AO3 also performs short and long-term planning for the research units in terms of training, procedures, creation of policy, administrative processes, and management of capital equipment. These research units provide an essential support function for more than 75 faculty members and 250 research staff in Neurology, Medicine, Radiology, Women's Health, and other departments. Responsibilities include recharge administration (more than $900K annually), purchasing, IT, facilities management, staff and user training, oversight of complex scheduling systems, committee work, and general administrative oversight to keep these units operational. Also serves as a safety coordinator, which includes the creation of emergency response plans, and is responsible for general patient and visitor safety in the research units.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $123,100 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience utilizing knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols, and procedures for recharge administration, space/equipment management, scheduling systems, purchasing, budget, accounting and fund management, vendor relations, and personnel management (or oversight of daily work)
- Interpersonal skills include verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills.
- At least 2 years experience utilizing EH&S and Infection Control policies for clinical areas
- Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
- HIPAA training and ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
- At least 3 years of experience administering recharge in an academic setting
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience (or overseeing the daily work of others), and interviewing, hiring, and training new staff
- At least 5 years of patient/staff safety oversight, including devising emergency plans and policy oversight, and the ability to escalate safety issues to clinical staff as necessary
- At least 2 years of working with patients with dementia and movement disorders
- Minimum 3+ years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
