Job Summary
The Inpatient Psychiatry Social Services Team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center is part of a broader interdisciplinary treatment team that provides care to adults experiencing acute mental health crises. The Clinical Social Worker (CSW) completes assessments using the psychosocial model and provides services such as case management, facilitating family meetings and case conferences, providing psychoeducation, and facilitating clinical groups and 1:1 intervention. The CSW collaborates closely with rest of the treatment team, patients, and collaterals to formulate and implement treatment and aftercare plans, and completes all required documentation within the designated timeframes.
The CSW works hand-in-hand with all team members to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care with cultural humility in mind at all times. In addition to completing assessments and interventions, the CSW is responsible for implementing discharge plans that meet patients' psychosocial needs; the CSW acts as a liaison between the patient, the treatment team, natural supports, and community providers regarding the discharge plan. Each CSW provides both clinical and discharge social work services for their own caseload. The listed position may also provide support across treatment teams and psychiatry units when there are coverage gaps within the Social Work team, during periods of increased workload, or when there are other exceptional requests regarding patient care needs on 7L or in PES.
The Department of Psychiatry Social Services Team embraces the Recovery Model of mental healthcare while engaging patients with Motivational Interviewing and other evidenced-based practices. Our patients also benefit from Trauma Informed Care, along with a strong therapeutic program for those with co-occurring disorders.
The Clinical Social Worker reports to the Inpatient Psychiatry Social Servicers Manager.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $37.56 - $50.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
CSW I: Masters' degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field from an accredited university and registered
as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) or equivalent experience/training
CSWII: Masters' degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field from an accredited university and possession of licensure through California Board of Behavioral Sciences, or possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as an LCSW or LMFT, as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, or equivalent training /experience
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others, including through efficient use of an electronic health record system. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detail-oriented.
Ability to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology.
Ability to create and use an organizational system to track and prioritize completion of all patient care responsibilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work as an interdisciplinary team member in a culturally diverse setting
Ability to lift 50lbs and climb stairs
Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance.
An understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients
Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
Prior related UC experience
Fluency in English and Spanish OR Cantonese
Experience working with adults who have serious mental illness and may be unhoused and/or are dually diagnosed with a cooccurring substance use disorder
Experience working in a hospital setting

The department is divided into six subdivisions; the Divisions of: Acute and Emergency Services - includes San Francisco's only 24/7 dedicated psychiatric emergency room; 44 inpatient psychiatry beds and consultation / liaison services to hospitalized medical and surgical patients Alliance Health Project - dedicated to providing HIV prevention services, mental health, and substance abuse services to the city's LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities Citywide Case Management Services - provides assertive case management services to nearly 1,000 of the most seriously mental ill patients in the city, as well as the city's forensic mental health patients Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - provides a range of mental health care to children from birth to 24 years of age Substance Abuse and Addiction Medicine - provides opiate replacement therapies and other services to more than 800 people each day, both on-site and in the community via mobile methadone vans Trauma Recovery Services - includes the Child and Adolescent Support Advocacy and Resource Center (CASARC), the Trauma Recovery Center (TRC), the Rape Treatment Center, Survivors International (SI), and the Neurotrauma Outreach Program (NTOP).
