Job Title: Radiation Therapist
Job Specialty: Radiology
Job Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Guaranteed Hours: N/A
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a hospital or treatment center environment; will accept new graduates from an AMA approved School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
License: Must possess a current Medical Radiologic Technologist certificate with the Texas Medical Board or have started the application process if a new graduate.
Certifications: ARRT, RT (R); Must complete registration requirements within the first year of employment. Maintain current BLS certification.
Must-Have: Basic computer knowledge, effective communication skills (both verbal and written), and completion of an AMA approved School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
Job Description:
- Administer radiation therapy treatments and simulations according to the prescription and instructions of the radiation oncologist with minimal supervision.
- Assess when treatment should be postponed for consultation with the radiation oncologist.
- Assist in treatment planning procedures, including tumor localization and dosimetry.
- Maintain adherence to Administrative and Departmental policies regarding behavior, dress, attitude, attendance, confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability.
- Work in the assigned area following applicable guidelines.
- Maintain an accurate schedule and aim to see patients on or before their appointed times.
- Explain procedures to patients and assess special needs such as dietary, psychosocial, and nursing/physician consultation.
- Prepare rooms and equipment, ensuring a safe and clean environment for radiation oncology patients.
- Report variations in treatment setup or dose delivery to the person in charge or the oncologist.
- Report erratic operation of equipment to the person in charge or Biomedical personnel.
- Observe radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
- Perform accurate documentation and record keeping.
- Conduct weekly chart checks on the opposite machine, rotating responsibility each week with a partner.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
