Are you a collaborative leader with experience in utility line construction and maintenance? Join Alectra as a Director, Operations, where you will provide leadership and direction to ensure construction and maintenance projects and programs are executed and electrical distribution system is constructed and maintained in accordance with standards, legislative, regulatory, safety and customer reliability requirements.

What you'll do

  • Provides leadership and guidance to highly skilled technical and trades employees in the execution of maintenance and construction programs for the electricity distribution system
  • Supports, establishes and implements the overall Construction and Maintenance Services strategic plan (policies, standards, practices and technology) by assessing emerging technologies and process improvements and industry trends
  • Creates, implements, and administers a management system to ensure compliance with electricity safety regulation Ontario Reg. 22/04
  • Collaborates with System Operations leadership to ensure system reliability targets are met through effective planning and execution of annual inspection and maintenance programs
  • Ensures quick and effective response to customer power outages and the safe and expeditious restoration of power to the customer
  • Establishes a high performance culture to ensure high levels of productivity, accountability, quality and customer service
  • Ensures adherence to and effective administration of collective agreement
  • Provides overall people leadership and direction through coaching, development, performance management and resource planning
  • Translates organization strategy into annual business plans and budgets and manages resources accordingly
  • Oversees department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
  • Recommends and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Who you are

Education
  • Bachelor's degree or College diploma related to Electrical Engineering or recognized equivalent
  • Registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) in good standing (preferred)
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver's license


Specialized knowledge
  • Strong understanding of electricity distribution design and construction practices, electrical distribution systems, safety standards and protection codes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financials and make sound business decisions*
  • Knowledge of regulatory and governmental requirements, codes and regulations (OHSA, E&USA Rules, WHMIS, ESA and TDG Act)
  • Knowledge of technical specifications and standards including CSA, CEA and ESA
  • Good understanding of electrical utility operations and construction work methods and practices, codes and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications


Experience
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a Utility at a manager/senior leader level
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with stakeholders, regulators and governing organizations
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to drive and execute strategic plans and objectives
  • Superior written and presentation skills, with the ability to organize and convey complex information in a compelling way
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
  • Strong conflict negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve complex and critical issues
