Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. As a leader in Mandarin Immersion education, our mission is to nurture our inclusive and diverse community to become empowered, engaged, and outstanding global citizens. We currently serve 952 students across three campuses, and continue to grow our enrollment each year. Position Summary

The Mental Health Clinician is a member of the Student Support Services Team, whose primary responsibilities are:

Supporting Tier 1 Socioemotional Supports for K-8th, such as:
  • Leading and/supporting Compass Circle and Badgework
  • Psychoeducational programming for mental health issues (e.g., bullying,suicide prevention, mental health awareness month)
  • Supporting the development and implementation of socioemotional practices in the classroom
  • Implementing socioemotional screening for students twice a year
  • Teacher and Parent Workshops on socioemotional or mental health issues
  • Being a member of COST Team

Supporting Tier 2 Socioemotional Supports for K-8th grade, such as:
  • Providing individual counseling for students referred to services through COST or 504 Plan
  • Group Counseling
  • Check In Check Out Coordinator
  • Friendship (Social Skills/Social Thinking) Groups
  • Teacher and Parent Consultation for individual student supports
  • Suicide Risk Assessments
  • Case management with county mental health systems

Supporting Tier 3 Socioemotional Supports for K-8th grade, which includes:
  • Individual Counseling for students referred to services through the IEP process
  • Group Counseling for students referred to services through the IEP process
  • Case management with county mental health systems

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • A master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a mental health discipline is required.

Licensure or Certification
  • Must be professionally licensed in the mental health field in California, or be eligible and actively pursuing licensure OR
  • Must have a CA teacher certification as a School Counselor or School Social Worker

Experience:
  • Prior experience of at least one year as a mental health clinician or supervised clinical experience is required
  • Experience working in a school setting with a K-12 population is preferred.
  • Experience with Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness is desired.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and start-up learning environment; ability to conduct tele-assessment and teletherapy services
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a solutions-oriented attitude

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitates the optimal functioning and well-being of students by providing individual and group counseling.
  • Ensures that the concerns of students and families are addressed in an appropriate manner through psychological assessment procedures, making referrals when indicated.
  • Promotes responsible care of students by maintaining documentation of client contacts, consultations, and referrals in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Ensures that the needs of students are addressed in emergency situations by providing crisis intervention services during office hours and after hours as needed.
  • Provides educational workshops by participating in proactive outreach programming.
  • Obtains additional relevant information and promotes self-understanding with students by suggesting and interpreting psychological tests.
  • Facilitates the understanding of psychological issues and concerns of the school community by serving as a consultant
  • Maintains and enhances the quality and relevance of school based mental health services provided by the school through on-going evaluation of all services with the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Ensures optimal operations of the school based mental health services by conferring with the Director of Student Support Services regarding administrative policies and procedures of the school.
  • Provides input and remains current on operations of the school based mental health services by attending staff meetings.
  • Acquires additional knowledge and skills in providing tele mental health services and counseling ethnic minorities and historically underrepresented individuals.
  • Remains knowledgeable about current trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and student development by participating in professional development through presentations, publications and memberships in professional organizations and obtaining Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required by the state licensing and regulatory boards.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Contributes to overall functioning of the school based mental health services by completing all other tasks which are assigned by the Director of Student Support services.


SUPERVISION

The Mental Health Clinician is supervised by the Director of Student Support Services and an additional licensed clinical supervisor if supervision hours are needed for licensure.

TIME COMMITMENT

180-day school year, 8 student-free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues. Common building hours are 8:00am-3:30pm Monday, 8:00am-4pm Tuesday-Friday.

COMPENSATION

$72,000 - $90,000 depending on years of experience and license status. Comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependents.
