ABSA is looking for an established executive in Alberta's utility sector to join our Board of Directors.

Although our primary focus is on the regulation of pressure equipment within the province of Alberta, ABSA is recognized as a leader both nationally and internationally, and we are looking for a Board member, representing the utilities industry, to join our Board.

ABSA's Board of Directors are integral in setting the strategic priorities and guiding the organization as it works to achieve its long-term strategic objectives. Some of ABSA's current strategic objectives include:
Harmonization of pressure equipment safety programs across Canada
Supporting the development of nuclear power in Alberta
Supporting industry to safely develop carbon-capture technology

Board members are responsible for providing strategic governance and fiduciary oversight to our organization to ensure the organization fulfills their mandate, operates with fiscal responsibility, and focuses on long-term sustainability. Board Members also provide insight and analysis on trends and changes in their industry sector that may have an impact on pressure equipment safety or ABSA operations.

About the Board

ABSA strives to be a leader in pressure equipment regulatory safety services. As a Board member you will help the organization shape its long-term strategic vision. Our Board of Directors is a small, voluntary, team of industry leaders. The Board consists of a five-member team of leaders who represent the major pressure equipment industries that comprise ABSA's stakeholders:
  • Pressure Equipment Manufacturing
  • Power Generation & Utilities
  • Oil & Gas
  • Education & Certification
  • Public Safety (Ministerial Appointment to the Board)

Qualifications

The ideal Board member for this role will be an individual who currently holds or has held a senior management or executive position with a company involved with Alberta's utility industry sector. Prior board experience is considered an asset. While an ICD.D designation is not required, special consideration will be given to candidates who have obtained this designation.

Commitment

As a non-profit organization, ABSA Board members serve voluntarily. Members are appointed for a three-year term, with an option to serve for a second three-year term. The Board meets four times per year alternating between Edmonton and Calgary. Board members are paid an annual honorarium for their commitment and reimbursed for travel expenses to attend meetings.
