The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Academic Leader, Faculty Development to join our team. This role is responsible for leading initiatives that promote the professional growth and development of faculty members to enhance teaching quality and effectiveness. This role provides strategic leadership in designing, implementing, and overseeing faculty development programs, ensuring they align with institutional goals and best practices in pedagogy. The position is critical in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning across the institution.

Note: For internal SAIT Faculty members, this position can be made available on a secondment basis, for a term that is mutually determined with your school.

The Role
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive faculty development strategy in alignment with the vision of the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
    • Provide leadership in identifying and addressing faculty development needs, ensuring alignment with current pedagogical trends and institutional goals.
    • Collaborate with the leadership team and other team members to drive faculty development strategy and direction.
    • Lead the design and delivery of faculty development programs and initiatives that enhance teaching skills, foster a culture of innovation, and support faculty in their professional growth.
    • Ensure programs are strategically aligned with departmental priorities and meet the diverse needs of faculty members at various stages of their careers.
    • Lead and manage faculty development projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with institutional priorities.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to enhance the scope and impact of faculty development initiatives, fostering collaboration and shared learning across disciplines.
    • Develop and implement mechanisms for assessing the effectiveness of faculty development programs.
    • Ensure programs meet desired outcomes in terms of faculty satisfaction, teaching effectiveness, and impact on student learning.
    • Regularly review and refine faculty development offerings based on feedback and emerging educational trends.
    • Propose recommendations for continuous improvement to ensure a consistent student experience.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal contributors, including faculty, academic leaders, and external partners.
    • Advocate for faculty development initiatives and engage participants in the continuous improvement of programs and initiatives.
    • Oversee a team of direct reports, providing supervision, coaching, goal setting, performance reviews, and addressing performance concerns.
    • Assign projects to team members based on capacity and skill alignment, providing ongoing performance feedback and support.
    • Support the team's need for escalations by identifying prudent actions and steering necessary communication and collaboration.
    • Develop work plans for each team member to ensure effective project execution and professional growth.


Qualifications and Skills
    • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Higher Education, Adult Education, or a related field; a PhD is preferred.
    • At least 7 years of experience faculty development or teaching with a focus on higher education.
    • At least 3 years of experience leading, mentoring, and supervising small teams as direct reports, as well as overseeing projects and committees.
    • Experience in a post-secondary institution with a demonstrated impact on faculty development programs.
    • Proven track record in leading faculty development initiatives and building faculty engagement.
    • Strong knowledge of current pedagogical practices and adult learning theories.
    • Demonstrated ability to steer cross-functional teams.
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with strategic planning and project management competency.
    • Skilled in aligning objectives to tasks, milestones, and metrics.
    • Effective in defining and setting priorities.
    • Proven track record of building relationships and collaborating with others.
    • Quick to establish credibility.
    • Capable of developing and maintaining a high profile and establishing effective two-way dialogue with a range of internal and external parties.
    • Adept at managing perceptions and expectations in difficult situations.
    • Proficient in identifying and escalating risks.


Job classification: Manager

Salary range: $100,000 - 130,000

Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
