The Account Supervisor (AS) is a full-time, salaried, director-level role. The AS provides strategic counsel, leadership and services across multiple accounts and among colleagues. The AS works with agency leaders to ensure exceptional delivery of all scopes of services within their budgets, towards retaining agency clients. The AS will manage the work of coordinator- and manager-level colleagues, along with that of consultants and vendors. The AS also is involved in the new-business acquisition process - from research and outreach to proposal development and presentations.

Overview
  • Manage delivery of services for 4 to 6 accounts or projects, for each ensuring: quality work products; fidelity project timelines and deadlines; fidelity to project budgets and profitability goals; consistent time and expense tracking; and administrative and operational coordination
  • Serve as clients' point-of-contact, working under the direction of the agency's senior and executive leadership
  • Direct team members (managers, coordinators), consultants and vendors as necessary; motivate, coach, and provide feedback and accountability via check-in meetings and performance reviews
  • Demonstrate exemplary and versatile writing and editing skills to produce client and agency materials, including articles, essays, social media posts, talking points, speeches, memos, reports
  • Support the agency's relationships with and overall service to its clients via leadership of scheduled and impromptu meetings, virtual and on-site events, mailed and delivered materials, et al
  • Using and protecting creative products of the agency and its clients
  • Participate in new-business development through brainstorming, proposal development and presentations
  • Create agency materials, including new business proposals, case studies, articles, social media content, and other content


Specialty expectations

Strong candidates for this role are prepared to work across the agency functions of client relationship management, public engagement and communication counsel.
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with community and public engagement activities, including focus groups, town halls, virtual gatherings, symposia, canvassing, etc.
  • Experience in the production of collateral materials (brochures, reports, videos, etc.)
  • Experience in media relations, inclusive of opinion writing, story pitching and working with journalists to produce final stories
  • Specialty knowledge or experience in a particular sector or industry relevant to agency clients or the types of projects the agency pursues

  • Maintain a high level of proficiency with Office 365 products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, especially) and use them and other relevant software programs to execute and safeguard the creative products of the agency and its client
  • Utilize project management tools (e.g., Big Time, Basecamp) to track work, track productivity and meet deadlines
  • Ensure good fiscal management of the agency's resources and budgets
  • Be able to take on physical/mental/environmental demands that include but are not limited to
  • Tolerance for prolonged and continuous stationary periods at a desk/computer
  • Ability to move throughout and in/out of the office to attend meetings or work in other buildings
  • Ability to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to operate controls for computers and other equipment
  • Ability to participate in virtual meetings, on camera
  • Ability to travel within the Chicagoland region by public transit or private car for off-site meetings and events
  • Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours, generally with at least 24 hours of notice


Required qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in public relations, communications and/or marketing, a portion of which have been spent in an agency setting, along with project management and planning, communications, and/or administration and operations experience
  • History of successful escalation of experience with teams, inclusive of belonging to, motivating and managing teams
  • Experience managing client, customer and/or vendor relationships
  • Experience with new-business pursuit, client acquisition and client retention
  • Patience to collaborate and the positive attitude that developing great work demands
  • Desire to commit to continuous learning and improvement of leadership skills
  • Traits that include strong listening, service leadership, problem-solving and forecasting skills; confidence to advise clients and coach teams; outstanding attention to detail; highly trustworthy


Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with time-entry based work and handling accounts receivables (vendor invoices)
  • Experience or interest in working in a founder-led, start-up environment
  • Passion for work that centers equity and inclusion, and views people and communities through an asset-based lens
  • Strong listening, problem-solving and service leadership skills; curious and eager to learn
