PAY RANGE: $100,000 - $115,000 per year

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Accounting Manager is responsible for controlling the activities of Accounting Department staff in the monthly closing process. Customer service quality and consistently meeting financial reporting calendar deadlines will play a significant role in the annual performance evaluation of the Accounting Manager. This role is a key member of the Food Bank management team and will collaborate and work closely with department heads throughout the organization. A positive attitude, teamwork, flexibility, and cooperation are critical success factors. A critical responsibility is the accurate and timely preparation of reimbursement claims for all government programs, along with the maintenance of current reports required to track the remaining funds available within each program. The Accounting Manager role is a primary supporting position to the Controller.

The Accounting Manager will execute his/her supervisory responsibilities within the framework of the organization's policies and procedures as well as applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; delegating and following tasks through to completion; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Positions reporting directly to the Accounting Manager include: Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, Jr. Staff Accountant, Cash Management Specialist, and other permanent and temporary resources as may be assigned depending upon workload requirements

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Financial Management: Timely publication of all Financial Reporting Calendar items including monthly financial statements and grant reports. Execute the Financial Closing Calendar in the production of monthly financial statements. Ensure accurate recording and reporting of restricted fund transactions. Monitor and ensure the accuracy of the monthly expense allocation process. Review and approve all entries into the general ledger system. Maintain and reconcile all subsidiary ledgers including receivables, payables, and fixed asset/depreciation tables. Oversee preparation of weekly cash status and forecast reports. Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations of all bank and investment accounts. Ensure timely and accurate 1099 reporting to vendors and the IRS. Prepares required invoices for non-inventory transactions. Payments and monetary donations from private individuals and entities. Assist the Controller as needed in gathering departmental revenue and expense reports to monitor budget variances.

Relationship Management & Program Facilitation: Create, maintain, and nurture positive working relationships with key government program representatives to facilitate the most positive and rapid response to Food Bank inquiries. Provide financial information as needed by the Development Department for grant applications and reporting. Handles vendors and agency inquiries regarding accounts as needed. Manage the government claim and reimbursement process ensuring compliance with program requirements.

Operational Support & Process Improvement: Maintain the organization's CAPEX log, tracking purchases against budget and reporting variances. Assist as needed in the preparation of budgets and forecasts. Assist the Controller in developing new business processes and procedures. Collaborate with the IOC Department as needed with inventory recordkeeping and posting of transactions into Navision. Verify inventory monthly service report data before use in accounting records. Review payroll register on a bi-weekly basis. Ensure timely and accurate filing of all business tax and license applications including City of Los Angeles Charitable Services. Assist with annual audits of all types by external auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or equivalent credentials, plus a minimum of 3 years experience in positions demonstrating a progressively increasing level of financial management and supervisory responsibility throughout all phases of the accounting cycle.
  • Ability to utilize discretionary judgment and make decisions independently and responsibly.
  • Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS Excel using extensive links and/or pivot tables. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • The ability to oversee a lengthy and complex monthly closing cycle.
  • Detail-oriented and outstanding organizational skills.
  • Able to work well with minimum supervision.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in fund accounting is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Naivision, Jet Reports, and inventory control system is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of widely diverse backgrounds.
  • May need to commute between Food Bank facilities in Los Angeles, CA, or the City of Industry, CA
