Job Summary:
Responsible for supervising and assisting in the performance of daily operations and activities related to general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and purchasing processes. Supervise department staff and recommend modifications to simplify and improve the accounting and budgeting processes and services. Administer the fiscal affairs of the District efficiently and expeditiously.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assist in the performance of daily operations and activities related to general ledger accounting, accounts payable, purchasing processes and school activity accounts. Respond to telephone or walk-in inquiries and supervise department staff, including training, guiding, evaluating, and assisting with interviewing.
- Monitor school sites relative to financial compliance issues parallel with Board policies.
- Recommend modifications to forms, procedures, and policies to simplify and improve the accounting and budgeting processes and services and as dictated by changes in statute.
- Manage District investments and cash within the established guidelines by paying bond and insurance premiums as required and overseeing the daily cash flow of the District. Maintain long-term debt fund. Serve as the liaison to banking institutions and train others on banking online services.
- Supervise the preparation of financial and budget reports at regular intervals. Assist with preparing, administering, monitoring, and controlling the budget. Reconciliation of annual budget baseline and mid-year budget revisions.
- Supervise the training of District-wide support personnel on budgeting, accounting methods, and the accounting software as needed. Serves as an accountant advisor for regular budget and all federal, state, and private projects approved by the board.
- Maintain current knowledge of laws and regulation pertaining to the school district and state and federal agencies and generally accepted accounting principles and standards. Represent the District at CDE Finance Policy & Procedures meetings. Recommends policy and procedure modifications as dictated by changes in statute.
- Serves as managing accountant on annual external audits in support of ACFR development. Direct data preparation, assignments, and collections of team inputs.
- Serve as managing accountant on monthly and annual year-end close processes and deliverables for District leadership and BOE reporting.
- Perform annual review of the District Financial Policies and Procedures manual. Recommend updates and changes. Provide continual communication to support District staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related Business Administration required. Master's Degree preferred.
- Six years of progressive experience in Accounting or related Business Administration, or ten years of experience in the accounting field or equivalent.
- Three years of experience in governmental accounting in school finance preferred and three years of direct supervisory experience.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.

- Advanced math and accounting skills.
- Advanced personal computer, keyboarding, spreadsheet, word processing, and 10-key skills.
- Operating knowledge of District accounting software/system within three months after hire.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to accounting and generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
- Ability to lead the work of teams, committees, and workgroups.
- Ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education, Superintendent, building, and department policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
