Penn Medicine has an exciting opportunity for Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants to join the Cardiology Advanced Practice (CAP-Service) team. The CAP- Service APP team has 2 service arms - advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology (CAP-I). Responsibilities will include caring for patients with advanced cardiovascular diseases (such as advanced heart failure due to various types of cardiomyopathies, complex valvular heart disease (such as patients requiring TAVRs, TMVRs etc.) and ischemic heart disease (requiring complex interventional cardiology interventions, mechanical circulatory support (i.e. Ventricular Assist Devices(VAD), Impellas), pulmonary hypertension, heart transplant recipients or complications associated with heart transplantation. The CAP-Service team primarily cares for patients in cardiac progressive care unit which also includes patients requiring pulmonary artery catheter placement for monitoring for hemodynamic guided therapies, temporary mechanical circulatory support such as Impella who are listed and waiting for heart transplantation.
This is a high paced inpatient service where the Advanced Practice Provider provides comprehensive care including: admissions, daily clinical care and tasks, and discharge planning. The Advanced Practice Provider is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The Advanced Practice Provider will work with highly specialized cardiologists who highly value the Advanced Practice Provider role and autonomy of the Advanced Practice Providers.
This position will require a high level of independence, but are well supported with collaborative practice models. The high-impact clinical setting is dynamic, fast paced and high pressure. Good organizational skills and a strong knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology are essential. In this role there will be tremendous professional growth potential and the opportunity to participate in Penn Medicine's tripartite mission of clinical care, research and education.
All Advanced Practice Providers will function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The Advanced Practice Provider hired by the Department of Advanced Practice will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed under the direction of the collaborating physician/division designee, and within the Human Resource guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:
- Masters prepared as an acute care nurse practitioner or physician assistant
- Pennsylvania licensure as an ACNP, AGACNP or PA-C
- BLS and ACLS required
- Experience in cardiology and acute care preferred
- Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams highly valued
- This position will be primarily for the CAP- Heart Failure but may need to cover to CAP-Interventional Cardiology as needed, thus the APP will be cross-trained in interventional cardiology as well.
- The position is Full Time FTE (0.9) equivalent to 72 hours / 2-week block.
- 8-12 hour shifts depending on staffing schedule/coverage with about 50% nightshift rotation.
- Every 4th weekend rotation but may need to adjust frequency as needed depending on service needs. Holiday rotations as scheduled by the team.
