The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment.

Why does the job exist?

Provide a high level of management for the New Mexico Department of Transportation ports team. Promote a high level of customer service, ensure compliance with federal regulations as well as state statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures; contribute to organizational development and improvements, consistent with legislative and executive directives and federal mandates. Represent the division in interactions with other state agencies, jurisdictions.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, vendors and contractors. Provide oversight to the human resource hiring processes within the bureaus to ensure the mission of the agency is met. Ensure compliance and proper oversight of Federal programs directly related to the ports.

Coordinate with other state agencies to improve processes and build relationships with stakeholders to achieve success for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. Exemplify strong human resource support to cultivate fair and consistent processes within the unit to ensure staff growth, retention and agency success.

How does it get done?

Position will be responsible for assisting with New Mexico Department of Transportation ports and staff issues.

Position will develop, update and approve training materials for port staff and ensure staff have adequate training and resources needed to comply with state and federal requirements.

It will be responsible for coordinating with federal partners, internal stakeholders, and industry

Internal customers, external customers/contractors, general public.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:

Ensure compliance with federal regulations as well as state statutes, regulations, policies,
and procedures.

Contribute to organizational development and improvements, consistent with legislative
and executive directives and federal mandates.

Ensure compliance and proper oversight of Federal programs directly related to the ports.

Minimum Qualification

A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
