Position Description
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is seeking an Administrative Staff Analyst (ASA) to join the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU). This position is responsible for the administrative support of one lieutenant, two sergeants, ten detectives and two criminal analysts. This unit is responsible for intelligence gathering, proactive criminal investigations, forensic analysis, and the Technical Electronic Support Unit (TESU) for the department. CIU is also responsible for special investigations including counterterrorism investigations (domestic and international), special events, threats to public officials, and dignitary support. This position supports detectives in the field, and maintains situational awareness of local, regional, national, and worldwide events.

The ASA is also responsible for preparing intelligence audits and the Annual Report on Implementation of Ordinance #108333, related to the Seattle Municipal Code 14.12 - Collection of Information for Law Enforcement Purposes. A successful candidate will be able to work independently while supporting sworn staff; the workload can shift from normal to critical and the ideal candidate will possess the ability to prioritize assignments effectively.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for a large specialty Unit.
  • Enter purchase order requests and travel training requests utilizing the SPD 1.5 and Travel Training databases.
  • Manage Unit inventory.
  • Manage forfeiture account budget expenditures.
  • Ability to research, analyze and compile data for reports and special projects.
  • Understands and complies with CJIS compliance standards for law enforcement records systems.
  • Understands and complies with 28 CFR Part 23 "Criminal Intelligence Systems Operating Policies" as well as state and local regulations regarding information/intelligence gathering.
  • Administrative Program manager for the Seattle Shield program, a public/private partnership between SPD and local businesses.
  • Department Administrator for Accurint (LexisNexis) accounts.
  • Prepares audits & reports in support of Seattle Municipal Code 14.12 - Collection of Information for Law Enforcement Purposes including: annual Report to the Mayor and bi-annual Chief's Audits.
  • Act as SPOC Liaison during pop-up and scheduled special events.
  • Duties as assigned by Unit leadership.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Requires two years of administrative experience and a bachelor's degree in business or public administration or related field (or a combination of education, training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background to perform the work).

Position Requirements:
  • Must pass a Seattle Police Department background investigation.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license.
  • This position is an onsite position; the employee is expected to perform work in person. No remote work option is available for this position. Individual schedules will be based on an agreement between the employee and their supervisor.

Desired Requirements:
  • Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills.
  • Experience working in a confidential environment.
  • Experience working with internal database systems (such as: MDT - mobile data terminals, 1.5 Purchase Orders, travel training, EMT - Employee Move Tracking, and PEDS - Police Employee Data System).
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with law enforcement records.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities, organize and manage workload and make decisions necessary to respond in an expeditious manner while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The full salary range for this position is $45.74 - $53.27 per hour.

New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $45.74 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.
