Manage and lead the Tool & Die function for Welser Profile NA facilities, including the management of people, equipment, and ensuring the overall effective operation of the Tool & Die department, providing schedules and production to meet customer requirements by performing the following duties.
Essential Responsibilities:
Job-related responsibility
- Lead, guide and manage the Tool & Die department, ensuring all activities are completed according to company policies and safety standards.
- Establish goals to drive department contributions and effectiveness.
- Responsible for the operational implementation and timely completion of all activities in the area of tool services.
- Plan, drive and organize department activities, delegating work based on production needs, i.e. monitor the fulfillment of the production program in terms of quality, quantity, deadline and cost-effectiveness. If necessary, clarification with the requesting department.
- Work through production documents, reading blueprints and job orders to understand product specifications, tooling instructions and required adjustments, and clarify discrepancies.
- Coordinate and partner with other departments.
- Participation in project tasks.
Removal, assembly and transportation of tools as well as production support
- Ensure tooling scheduling, availability and readiness based on production start dates and consult and coordinate with production planning and operations.
- Manage tool room inventory.
- Prepare tools in a functional manner.
- Arrange for tool transportation to the production plant, technical production support at the production plant; take measures if necessary in the event of problems.
Production-related post-processing
- Check tools for wear and function. Create processing requests.
- Manage, create and, if necessary, request spare parts.
Optimizations
- Develop measures for tool optimization in coordination with tool making technology and design. Coordinate tool changes in the production process and, if necessary, prepare processing requests. Develop concepts and measures for area optimization.
- Continuously optimize processes, process reliability and product quality.
- Root cause analysis and derivation of measures to prevent errors.
Communication
- Ensure awareness of the management system and its compliance and consistent implementation by the employees to be managed.
- In coordination with the responsible area manager, conduct annual appraisals with direct reports as a key feedback tool.
- Provide feedback to employees on customer satisfaction with the services provided by Welser.
Other activities
- Technical tool support for Machinists and Tool & Die Technicians 1, 2 and 3.
- Training of new employees.
Creation of the necessary working environment
- Ensure the availability and functionality of the equipment, devices, tools and other production and auxiliary materials required for the assigned area.
- If necessary, request appropriate assistance from the relevant organizational units.
Employee management and professional qualification
- Support, encourage and motivate employees appropriately to achieve objectives.
- Promote solutions to problems through appropriate communication.
- Ensure order and cleanliness.
- Implement corrective actions when needed and partner with other leaders and human resources to resolve issues.
- Clearly define processes and expectations for department.
- Ensure effective integration of new employees.
Active participation in the CIP
- Continuous identification of potential to increase effectiveness and profitability (efficiency).
- Live a constructive error culture ("learning from mistakes", always addressing errors openly and eliminating causes - where necessary, requesting assistance from other leaders)
Budget responsibility
- Gain a strong understanding of cost center budget and spend (primary costs and costs of internal activity allocation).
- Monitor statistical key figure in the event of changes to relevant parameters.
- Prepare and monitor budget for own area of responsibility as well as carrying out variance analyses (in cooperation with Controlling), deriving suitable measures if necessary.
- Support the preparation and implementation of investments and their realization, in particular for area-specific topics.
- Define minimum / stock levels in the area of assigned resources.
Ensure
- Proper shift handover to ensure continuous performance and quality (in particular communication regarding relevant, shift-related special features).
- The availability and functionality of the systems (production, auxiliary and operating equipment, devices, tools, saw blades) as well as an economical process organization
- On-time processing of all orders in accordance with the planning specifications.
- Compliance with all laws, policies, procedures and other company requirements.
- Evaluation of process data and derivation and implementation of measures
- Implementation of the corporate strategy in the area, including appropriate communication

Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or other related technical field strongly preferred. Equivalence in knowledge, skills and experience may be taken into consideration.
- 5+ years of leadership experience
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings

- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; ability to interact professionally and at multiple levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally.
- Ability to work accurately with details and to take complex problems and communicate at a technical level.
- Highly skilled in MS Office Suite, experience with ERP (e.g. SAP) and other systems, e.g. Medusa, and ability to learn new software.
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing operations and tooling.
