About the Department
Established in July 2006, the Kovler Diabetes Center has had a significant impact in the diabetes community at the local, regional, and national levels. Together, Director, Louis Philipson, MD, PhD, FACP and Executive Director, Peggy Hasenauer, MS, RN have grown the Center's staff and faculty to support ambitious clinical research and further expand the comprehensive care model at UChicago Medicine. The Kovler Diabetes Center, along with support of other faculty in the Section of Endocrinology, builds on more than a century of University of Chicago contributions to diabetes care and research by:
Delivering state-of-the-art comprehensive care, tailored to the needs of individual patients of all ages.
Conducting leading-edge research into the causes of diabetes and new breakthrough treatments.
Partnering with underserved populations to offer new hope to the communities hardest hit by diabetes, specifically here on Chicago's South Side.
Disseminating the latest advances in diabetes care worldwide through intensive outreach and education.
Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider will provide comprehensive care to patients in the Kovler Diabetes Center and CRC, particularly those with diabetes/ hyperglycemia. Perform routine patient assessments, manage chronic medication regimens and screen for toxicity, manage diabetes care and clinical research patients.

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications:
Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider will provide comprehensive care to patients in the Kovler Diabetes Center and CRC, particularly those with diabetes/ hyperglycemia. Perform routine patient assessments, manage chronic medication regimens and screen for toxicity, manage diabetes care and clinical research patients.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients with diabetes and endocrine diseases.
- Assess, diagnose, initiate delegated medical treatments, perform independent nursing interventions and evaluate care.
- Provide a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.
- Document history and physical examination and changes in management according to government guidelines in the outpatient clinic at University of Chicago.
- Help arrange diagnostic tests, follow-up on tests, and other patient care issues.
- Attend weekly conferences and yearly continuing education courses to keep abreast of endocrine patient management.
- Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
- Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care.
- Performs other related work as needed.
