Position Summary:
We are seeking a Medicinal Chemistry Scientist to join our Discovery and Preclinical R&D team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in small molecule and peptide synthesis and will leverage these skills to advance new ligands for targeted radiopharmaceuticals. A strong understanding in drug discovery, microbiology/biochemistry assay analysis, analytical chemistry, and animal model DMPK is also important.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Medicinal Chemistry Scientist to join our Discovery and Preclinical R&D team. Responsibilities:
- Support POINT's early targeted radiopharmaceuticals drug discovery efforts.
- Independently plan and carry out the synthesis, purification, and characterization of target molecules, including small molecule ligands and oligopeptides.
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Coordinating and collaborating with external (CRO's) and internal groups across CMC, preclinical, DMPK, etc.
- Participate in study design, vendor selection, study execution, interpretation and report writing.
- Facilitate preparation, packaging, and shipping of materials to other POINT facilities and external partners.
- Work with chemists and logistics teams to source, purchase, and monitor ships of commercial chemicals.
- Generate and manage internal documentation involve chemical structure and characterization databases.
- Work collaboratively with teams of diverse scientific expertise and clearly communicate experimental details and scientific results.
- Demonstrate flexibility in day-to-day operations, assisting other divisions in R&D.
Basic Requirements:
- PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related fields
- 2+ years relevant post-graduate experience in synthetic chemistry
- Experience with small molecule organic synthesis and design of reactions
- Experience in normal and reverse phase chromatography
- Ability to analyze composition and purity of products (NMR, HPLC, MS, etc.)
- Experience with multi-step organic synthesis and characterization w/ working knowledge of solid-phase peptide synthesis
- Working knowledge of MS-Office, ChemDraw, MestreNova
Additional Preferences:
- 2+ years of industry experience
- Experience working with radioligand therapy or molecular imaging
- Understanding of medicinal chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, and PK/PD principles
- Solid understanding and experience with peptide synthesis
- Capable of working independently and managing time effectively
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability communicate scientific results to an interdisciplinary team

Physical Demands/Travel:
The physical demands of this job are consistent with a lab environment
- Work environment is onsite downtown Toronto near College Street and University Avenue at the MaRS building.
- Anticipate travel for team and client meetings. Traveling across borders may be required, proper travel documentation such as a valid passport and travel visas are required.
- Wearing standard PPE in the lab is required.
- Must have use of full dexterity to perform routine benchwork in a laboratory setting.
