SUMMARY: The physician will provide Pediatric Hospitalist services for Alameda Health System, under employment from Alameda Health Medical Group. Services will be on-site at Highland Hospital, San Leandro Hospital and Alameda Hospital.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Clinical responsibilities include coverage of the Level II Special Care Nursery and Level I Newborn Nursery, attendance at deliveries, and consultation services in the Emergency Department at Highland Hospital. Perform department-specific medical care, including triaging, taking AHS patient histories and physical examinations, interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, interpreting and correlating subjective and objective data, diagnosing, and writing orders for all AHS patients presented to the Department.
A. Physician shall review, evaluate, and document the clinical management of each infant, on-site, at least on a daily basis.
B. Physician will ensure that information is provided, on an ongoing basis, to referring physicians regarding their patients.
C. Physician to be called for any unstable infant in the NICU or if there is a major change in infant's condition requiring reevaluation.
D. Should the in-house Physician be unable to complete consult in the Emergency Department within 30 minutes, there is an on-call Pediatrician for the outpatient clinics who can also respond by phone within 30 minutes.

2. Work Hospitalist shifts that are 12 or 24 hours.

3. Round on nursery which is typically 4 hours in the morning.

4. Complete all records and reports on a timely basis and in accordance with AHP's medical records policies and Medical Staff Bylaws.

5. Provide care to Patients of AHS using a collaborative, team model of care characterized by supportive physician/staff interaction. The team model includes a consistent set of behaviors between team members while delivering patient care services. Support includes, but is not limited to, receptivity to requests/questions/concerns; compassionate patient and patient family interaction; and all interactions between team members be void of disruptive and/or harassing behaviors.

6. Consult with members of the medical staff regarding issues concerning the appropriate medical services to be provided to such patients.

7. Work with specialists and transport services (when clinically appropriate) provided by UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.

8. Comply with the requirements and standards of Medi-Cal, The Joint Commission and any other accrediting agencies designated as well as all applicable laws, rules and regulations.

9. Follow and abide by the hospital's Standards of Conduct.

ACADEMIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in department staff meetings.

2. Participate in academic activities including resident education, Grand Rounds and conferences

3. Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.

4. Work with the Department Chair, Director, Manager, Supervisor and other physicians for department improvement projects as needed.

5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is required.

Required: Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Hospitalist

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.

Valid DEA license
