As we transition from pre-revenue to a sustainable, profitable business generating over $10M in gross merchandise volume, we seek a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to actualize this vision, capture market share from incumbents, grow the marketplace, and innovate at the intersection of e-commerce, consumer engagement, public interest/attention, and community-building.

CEO's Key Responsibilities

1. Provide Strategic Leadership & Creative Execution
  • Build and lead a high-performing team, ensuring alignment with the company's mission, vision, and culture.
  • Drive financial sustainability by overseeing budgeting, performance management, and operational efficiency.
  • Strengthen relationships with stakeholders, including the board, President, and external partners, to advance strategic goals.

2. Oversee Marketplace Growth and Profitability
  • Ensure the successful execution of a roadmap that scales the marketplace from pre-revenue to $10M+ in sustainable revenue.
  • Guide seller and customer acquisition, retention, and brand positioning strategies to drive engagement on both sides of the marketplace.
  • Provide oversight of supply chain, logistics, and fulfillment strategies to enhance buyer and seller experiences.
  • Oversee the development of a scalable business model that balances revenue growth with profitability.
  • Ensure liquidity by optimizing pricing models, trust mechanisms, and transaction flows for a seamless user experience.

3. Oversee Innovation and Differentiation to Drive Market Leadership
  • Establish the marketplace as a platform that fosters community connections, American craftsmanship, and economic revitalization.
  • Guide the introduction of new business models, engagement strategies, and experiential commerce innovations.
  • Leverage technology, storytelling, stakeholder outreach, media, and customer experience design to create an emotionally compelling and differentiated buying journey as well as marketplace buzz.

Requirements

Proven Experience in Growth and Marketplaces

Growth-focused executive with proven experience scaling a marketplace from early-stage to profitability

Has experience in scaling an ecommerce business, but not a marketplace

Strong Leadership and Team Development

Strong leader and team builder with demonstrated success in recruiting, inspiring, and managing top-tier talent.

Focuses on process or outcomes, but not on people

Expertise in Customer Growth and Retention

Deep expertise in customer acquisition, engagement, and retention, particularly in the digital economy.
Limited exposure to driving growth in supply or demand

Balanced Approach to Innovation, Operations, and Finance

Ability to balance innovation, operational execution, and financial discipline to drive sustainable growth.

Prioritizes market share over profitability, or profitability over market share

Alignment with Mission and Industry

Understands American manufacturing, or local economic development, and has a vision for how it can build civil society.

Interested in manufacturing or civil society, but doesn't see how they can bolster one another.
