QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess an advanced degree, Masters or higher, from an accredited institution with emphasis in educational leadership, school administration, curriculum, or other related field.
  • Possess or immediately qualify for a Michigan Administrator Certificate
  • Michigan Teaching Certificate (preferred).
  • A minimum of three years experience as a middle or high school educator is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years experience as a middle or high school administrator is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership resulting in teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership in communicating a clear vision and working cooperatively with colleagues to attain the vision.
  • Evidence of ability to establish working relationships that result in mutual respect.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a strong middle and high school curriculum, instruction, and assessment knowledge base.
  • Knowledge of federal and state educational mandates.

    JOB GOALS:

    The Principal at Starkweather Academy leads and oversees the alternative high school within the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools district. They develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate all instructional and alternative school programming while adhering to Board policies and building community relations. Additionally, the principal cultivates an inclusive, welcoming environment for students, families, and staff. They support curriculum, instruction, and assessment to implement district expectations and integrate continuous improvement. The principal also conducts personnel evaluations, sets high expectations for success, collaborates on effective procedures/practices for the school, and works within budgets to allocate funds supporting efficient operations and goal achievement.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide the leadership to ensure excellence, equity, and access for all students.
  • Provide leadership for and ensure adherence to the approved curriculum, evidence-based instructional practices, and assessments.
  • Provide leadership to meet and exceed the standards in the state accreditation program, school improvement framework, and federal accountability.
  • Assume responsibility for the administration of national, state, and local assessments as well as the analysis and reporting of results.
  • Employ restorative practices to build community, resolve conflicts, and repair harm with students, families, staff, and administrators.
  • Ensure the appropriate supports are in place for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and Multilingual Learners.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for all students and staff.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline according to due process standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other district principals and administrative team members to meet and exceed high school and district goals.
  • Final decision maker for his/her assigned building under defined conditions.
  • Know the needs of the staff and contribute to the design and implementation of professional development to support high school and district goals.
  • Evaluate and review the performance of staff assigned to Starkweather Academy.
  • Communicate the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the high school program to students, families, staff members, and the community at large.
  • Supervise and actively participate in afternoon and evening school activities as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in Board of Education meetings and appropriate committee meetings to support the work of the high schools, district, and community.
  • Coordinate with the district Human Resources Department for recruiting, screening, interviewing, and recommending qualified candidates for high school staff positions.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the budget that supports the alternative high school program.
  • Work cooperatively with other administrators in the areas of pupil accounting, facility use, staff assignments, financial resource development, and coordination of schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies of the Board of Education and administrative guidelines and procedures.
  • Oversee the adult education program while effectively managing all grants associated with the adult education program.
  • Oversee the shared time program and all associated responsibilities.
  • Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of High School Education.

  • EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.

    BEGINNING DATE: July 1, 2024

    SALARY RANGE: $104,000 -$134,844 Placement on the PCA salary schedule is dependent upon background and experience. 47 week position. If hired after July 1, 2024 full year salary will be prorated to the start date.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
