Job Summary
The Americas Payroll Manager is responsible for delivering customer-focused and efficient payroll services, including payroll tax administration, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing for our Americas locations. The candidate must proactively troubleshoot and develop solutions to enhance continuous process improvements, internal controls, and employee experience. This individual will provide hands-on execution, liaise between internal teams, external partners, employees, and third-party vendors, and develop team members to optimize operational excellence.
This role provides leadership and oversight for the Payroll team supporting the Americas region, which currently includes the United States, Canada, Colombia, and Mexico. The role manages the implementation and operational workflow of administrative procedures related to pay, tax and time, and evaluates pay practices to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies, practices, and multi-state and federal laws.

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For this position, the targeted base salary pay range is $85,000-120,000. In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.

This role provides leadership and oversight for the Payroll team supporting the Americas region, which currently includes the United States, Canada, Colombia, and Mexico. The role manages the implementation and operational workflow of administrative procedures related to pay, tax and time, and evaluates pay practices to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies, practices, and multi-state and federal laws.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the entire payroll process from start to finish. Responsible for timely and accurate processing, delivery and reconciliation of payroll. Directs and oversees the team's production of regular and special payroll runs.
- Lead and mentor a team of payroll specialists - coach, teach, guide, motivate and inspire the team, set goals, assign projects, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Oversee pre and post payroll auditing procedures and troubleshoots issues and implements corrective actions that eliminate the root cause of issues.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant reporting standards including taxes, tax filings, garnishments, and interfaces.
- Build relationships and collaborates with customers and HR partners, facilitate a customer-centered approach to resolve issues, apply service level agreements, and implement process changes as needed.
- Create, review, and maintain reliability and validity of department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manuals for payroll system and all payroll related procedures, policies, records, processes, protocols, and standard business practices to ensure consistency in operations and maintain workflows across teams.
- Evaluate pay practices to ensure compliance with country specific, federal, state, and local wage and hours laws
- Collaborate with partnering teams to develop and implement core and common processes and improvements to scale and drive efficiency.
- Support payroll implementation as we expand into new Americas countries.
- Oversee tax and regulatory reporting, including quarter-end and year-end payroll activities.
- Resolve complex and escalated payroll issues, working with leadership as needed.
- Establish and maintain internal controls and participate in periodic control audits by internal and external partners.
- Collaborate with Accounting and Finance teams on allocations and general ledger needs and discrepancies, including reconciliation and periodic reporting requirements.
- Participate in various projects and initiatives as business lead, subject matter expert or key stakeholder.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent Global Payroll certification required.
- 10+ years of experience with demonstrated expert knowledge of Canada, US & LATAM payroll processing and legislation.
- 5+ years of proven people management experience, including the ability to supervise, motivate and lead a payroll team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of payroll services.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to respond to payroll-related queries/issues/escalations timely and solve problems effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work across all levels of the organization, adapting to changing business needs.
- Proficiency in English (required), Spanish (plus), with preferred experience in Workday payroll and ADP payroll systems, and proficiency in Office applications: Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word
- Strong attention to accuracy and details with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate the needs and root cause.
