Position Duties
Salary Information

The salary ranges for the Analyst I/II classifications are:
Analyst I: $89,849.76 - $109,200.00
Analyst II: $98,039.76 - $119,159.04

All ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience.

Position and Duties

The Human Resources department is currently seeking to fill three (3) full-time Analyst vacancies in the Employment Division. Employment Analysts are responsible for recruiting qualified applicants by developing and administering valid selection processes and for conducting classification projects such as individual position studies, new job class development and class specification revision.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Developing and administering valid recruitment process.
  • Providing strong customer service to applicants and hiring departments.
  • Building effective relationships with all City Departments and other key stakeholders.
  • Completing transactions for hires and promotions.
  • Benchmarking salary and minimum qualification data from labor market agencies.
  • Conducting desk audits for position reclassification studies.
  • Gathering and analyzing data to review and update class specifications.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for human resources in the public sector. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with all City Departments and with other key stakeholders within the City of San Jose organizational structure and to represent the City to applicants, employees and residents. Attention to detail, a strong customer service perspective, and critical thinking skills are crucial. These positions require creative thinkers who are willing to develop and implement strategies to meet department needs.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

2. Experience:
  • Analyst I: none.
  • Analyst II: Two (2) years of responsible professional staff analytic or administrative experience conducting studies, organizing and analyzing data, and preparing reports, recommendations, or conclusions for a functional area in budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration, or human resources.

3. Acceptable Substitutions: Additional years of experience in a position comparable to the Staff Specialist with the City of San Jos in areas such as budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration or human resources may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis
