Summary

The Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH)/Baylor College of Medicine is seeking to expand its faculty in the Division of Anatomic Pathology with an M.D., D.O. or M.D./Ph.D. board-certified or board-eligible anatomic pathologist with training and experience in Perinatal Pathology. Candidates will be considered for tenure-track or tenured faculty appointments at Baylor College of Medicine.

Houston is the fourth largest and among the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States. TCH is the nation's largest children's hospital and is ranked No. 3 in U.S. News and World Report's 2023 Honor Roll of Best Children's Hospitals. The Texas Children's Hospital complex, located within the Texas Medical Center, itself the largest medical campus in the world, includes among several other buildings the Pavilion for Women, a stand-alone women's and perinatal hospital under the TCH umbrella that is staffed by Baylor College of Medicine faculty. The Pavilion for Women serves high risk obstetrics, gynecology, fetal medicine and fetal surgery. The Department of Pathology at TCH oversees all pathology services for the Pavilion, including gynecologic pathology, placental pathology and perinatal pathology.

The combined annual surgical case volume exceeds 17,000 specimens from pediatric and gynecologic surgeries and obstetric deliveries, 3,000 additional cytopathology cases and 110 pediatric and perinatal autopsies annually. The subset of annual Pavilion volumes include 3,000 placental examinations and 2,000 gynecologic cases. Within the Department of Pathology at TCH are additional Divisions of Genomic Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Pathology Informatics, Transfusion Medicine & Coagulation, Community Pathology, and Discovery.

Job Duties

Pathologists at Texas Children's Hospital have primary full-time academic appointments in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine and are expected to contribute to educational and scholarly activities in the Department of Pathology based at Texas Children's Hospital, as well as pathology resident and fellow education. Academic appointment (tenure-track) will be at a level commensurate with standards within the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine. There are exceptional opportunities for collaboration and research activities that include TCH and extend across numerous institutions within the Texas Medical Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Interested individuals must possess Board eligibility or certification in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology through the American Board of Pathology. Board certification, board-eligibility and/or experience in an additional subspecialty including Pediatric Pathology is preferred but not required. Candidates must also be eligible for an active, unrestricted Texas medical license. Primary service responsibilities will include perinatal/placental pathology. Additional service coverage in pediatric and/or gynecologic pathology arenas can be tailored to the successful candidate.
