QUALIFICATIONS
Supervisor's Certificate for Special Education or Principal Certification
Five years' experience in Special Education.
Bachelor's and Master's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Special Education, School Administration, or other related educational discipline.
Motor vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

JOB GOAL
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, to assist in the implementation, administration, and management of the district's student services and special education programs. Critical areas include but not limited to working with exceptional students, early intervention, extended school year, occupational and physical therapies, speech and language, IEPs, 504 service contracts, McKinney Vento, Foster, Social Workers, BCBAs, Nurses, Counselors, and Giftedness. In coordination with the Director of Student Services, assist with management of department objectives and ensures compliance with federal and state laws and district policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Assists in developing and administering the school district's special services programs consistent with the school district goals and objectives, as well as applicable law.
Provides leadership in planning and implementing instructional programs for special education.
Assists in the assignment of special education, early intervention, paraprofessional staff, related services, 504 Plans, GIEP's, nursing, counseling, social work, BCBA and speech/language programs to ensure the most effective utilization and provision of special services and programs as requested.
Assists in the assignment of students into special education sections/caseloads.
Assists principals in the supervision and observation of professional and support personnel.
Assists the Director of Student Services in the planning and budgeting processes for all student services contracts.
Advises and assists in the planning and budgeting processes for District operated special education programs and services.
Insures compliance to all state and federal laws regulating special education.
Reviews and approves requisitions for special education curriculum materials, supplies, and equipment and makes recommendations regarding approval.
Maintains effective liaison with internal staff and external agencies.
Keeps abreast of developments in the fields of special education, student assessment and services; keeps other school district staff informed of developments in the field as well as changes in laws or regulations in areas of responsibility.
Assists in the Director of Student services in the recruitment, selection, training, professional development, observation, and evaluation of staff under areas of responsibility; makes recommendations regarding goals and corrective action.
Communicate, collaborate, coordinate, and supervise the District Social Workers, School Psychologists, BCBA's, Nurses, Counselors, Special Education Teachers, Gifted Teachers, and Paraprofessional staff.
Helps to facilitate the responsibilities of McKinney Vento Coordinator, Foster Care Point of Contact, Homeless Liaison, and 504 Coordinator.

Secondary Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides and/or plans in-service programs for special education staff members and regular education staff members; provides technical assistance to staff members.
Reviews and recommends field trips, instructional material and equipment purchases.
Assists principals with the interview process of new staff members for professional and nonprofessional vacancies related to special education.
Maintains ongoing communications with teachers, guidance counselors, principals, central administrators, School Board, parents and community.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Student Services

260 Day Contracted Position
Compensation as per the District's Act 93 Administrative Compensation Plan

EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations of administrative employees.
