Job Summary:

The Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for an Applications Development Manager to join the Research Administration Systems team. Our systems deliver web-based systems to faculty, staff, and students for managing research-related activities across campus.

We are seeking a forward-thinking candidate with a robust background in software development who can provide innovative technical strategy and leadership to our team as we look to replace four of our research administration systems in the next several years. In addition to technical leadership and strategy, this position will also manage a team of developers who support the existing applications. This position would report to the Assistant Director of Research Administration Systems.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and strategic guidance on a large-scale system migration to cloud-based technology. Includes the application layer plus data management/storage, data integrations, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with eResearch systems product managers and others across the organization to develop, champion and oversee a technology and software acquisition and development strategy that aligns with business requirements and priorities within the university's ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with other divisions to manage technical infrastructure and the production application environment.
  • Guide and inspire a team of application developers to set and achieve Research Administration technical goals in developing new components and customizations. Encourage developers to broaden their technical knowledge in order to achieve this.
  • Collaborate with team members within and outside of the Research Administration team in order to define and improve the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience in software design, implementation, testing and support with a focus on enterprise application integrations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a management position to include responsibility for strategic planning, customer relationship management, project management, resource planning and scheduling, and supervisory experience that includes recruiting, mentoring, career development and performance management, leadership, and/or team building.
  • Extensive programming background using an object-oriented language (preferably C#), web services (REST), and modern web technologies, integration technologies (APIs, queues, middleware), database management systems (SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of the process and issues involved with software and application development, release management, tools, architecture, and methodology (knowledge of Agile, Scrum, or similar iterative development methodologies).
  • Experience leading teams through significant technology change.

Underfill Statement

This appointment may be filled at either the Development Manager level or the Supervisor level depending on your qualifications and experience. The target salary range for the Manager level is $114,000 to $124,000 and for the Supervisor level is $104,000 to $114,000.
