The Area Director will lead a team of revenue managers, collaborate with sales, marketing, and operations teams, and implement data-driven strategies to achieve financial goals across the portfolio.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Revenue Strategy & Optimization:
- Develop and implement comprehensive revenue management strategies for a portfolio of properties to maximize room revenue, profitability, and market share.
- Analyze market data, booking trends, and competitor performance to inform pricing, demand forecasting, and inventory control decisions.
- Monitor and adjust pricing and distribution strategies in real-time to respond to changes in demand, market conditions, and business goals.
- Ensure alignment of pricing and distribution with overall company strategy, ensuring revenue targets are met for all properties in the portfolio.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of revenue managers, providing guidance on best practices, tools, and strategies for optimizing revenue.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team, ensuring each member has the skills and knowledge to drive results.
- Set performance objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and support team development through coaching and feedback.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Work closely with sales, marketing, operations, and finance teams to ensure revenue management strategies are aligned with sales campaigns, marketing initiatives, and operational goals.
- Collaborate with property leadership teams to ensure the implementation and execution of revenue strategies at the property level.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management and property leaders regarding pricing, forecasting, and inventory management.
- Forecasting & Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of revenue forecasts, ensuring that short- and long-term projections align with market conditions and historical performance.
- Analyze and report on key revenue metrics, including occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), revenue per available room (RevPAR), and total revenue.
- Present regular performance reports to senior management, highlighting trends, opportunities, and challenges within the revenue management function.
- Market Analysis & Competitive Intelligence:
- Conduct ongoing market research to monitor competitive set performance and identify trends in the local and regional markets.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key industry partners and distribution channels to enhance revenue opportunities and maximize visibility.
- Analyze competitor pricing and strategies, adjusting the portfolio's pricing and distribution tactics accordingly to maintain a competitive edge.
- Revenue Systems & Tools Management:
- Oversee the effective use of revenue management systems (RMS), booking channels, and other technology platforms to ensure efficient pricing, inventory management, and reporting.
- Stay up to date with the latest revenue management technologies and industry best practices, implementing new tools and systems when necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement in the utilization of data analytics to inform decision-making processes and optimize revenue performance.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business, hospitality management, finance, or a related field required; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in revenue management, including at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role in the hospitality industry.
- Proven track record of success in managing revenue strategies for multiple properties or large-scale hotel operations.
- Advanced proficiency in revenue management systems, distribution platforms, and data analysis tools (e.g., Opera, RMS, STR, Excel).

- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and market trends to make strategic decisions.

- Deep understanding of revenue management principles, pricing strategies, and forecasting techniques.

- In-depth knowledge of hotel operations, sales processes, and the broader hospitality industry.
- Ability to think strategically, set clear goals, and drive results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
- Ability to travel between properties as needed (up to 25% of time).
- Ability to work in an office setting, with occasional site visits to properties for meetings and inspections.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
