Art Director (Animation)

Real Chemistry is looking for an Art Director join our growing RadScience team! This role can be remote in the US or in any of our US offices, including New York City, Boston, Chicago, or Philadelphia.

What you'll do:

New Business Acquisition
May assist in the preparation of new business opportunity presentations, input meetings, and staffing plan development with department leads

Creative Strategy
Works with Creative Director (CD), Associate Creative Director (ACD), and/or Account Lead to align on project objectives and strategic approach; participates in the ideation process

Execution & Work Output
In addition to leadership, performs some production tasks related to the individual's production background (i.e. concept ideation, mood board, storyboard, or animation development) in combination with Art Direction responsibilities
Throughout the duration of the project, supervises the assigned production team to ideate, pull-through, and/or execute on strategic direction from client, CD, ACD, Practice Lead, and Account Lead to deliver appropriate output that meets clients' business objectives.
Ensures organizational conventions are followed and maintained on designated projects.
Sets up and maintains the server or production BOX project folder, ensuring the production team assigned to the project is backing up files regularly
Works collaboratively with the Project Manager partner to:
Create and maintain the production timeline, including frequency of WIP and internal reviews within production and Project Leads
Assigns tasks and delivery expectations to the supporting production team
Leads communication with production team about key milestones and timeline updates
Regularly checks in with production team assigned to project on task status to ensure hours are sufficient and deliverables can be met on time
Recognizes potential project challenges and alerts CD/ACD and PM partner (timing/budget issues, etc); and work with CD/ACD and Account Lead on proposed on-strategy and creative solutions
Reviews project scopes and overall timelines with CD/ACD to assess resource requirements
Sets the standard for internal reviews by:
Organizing and preparing all creative materials
Leading internal critiques, set tone for feedback, make clear actionable suggestions, foster a safe, creative environment
Effectively presenting the work and owning the creative decisions
Making critical inclusion/exclusion decisions
Clarifying and collecting feedback
Determining action plan for the production team
Makes sure the output from the first delivery to final file hand-off and every step in between is successfully met

Client Engagement/Communications
Participates in deliverable presentations/reviews with clients, including the curation of deliverables with CD/ACD
May be included in some early discussions with clients about incoming opportunities, including brainstorming sessions

Professional Development & Team Mentorship
Effectively trains reports with proper onboarding to the business, helping them to acclimate through shadowing & applicable/tangible work experience when opportunities are available
Ensures direct reports are aware of and follow protocols and procedures
Meets regularly with reports (minimum semi-monthly) to collaborate on their personal career goals & identify opportunities/access to help them achieve
Regularly evaluates report's performance and goals progress
Makes recommendations for improvement while effectively course correcting
Acknowledges their contributions & accomplishments and work on promotion track when ready
Conducts manager annual evaluations
Works with leadership on behalf of reports when needed
Reviews and approves timesheets for non-billable tasks/PTO requests

Departmental Maintenance
May contribute towards the establishment/refinement of production-related SOPs and team integration
May identify areas for improvement at the department/organization and work collaboratively with others to develop solutions

What you should have:
Should be proficient in C4D, Redshift, After Effects, Media Encoder, Premiere, and Photoshop
Should have working knowledge of Red Giant, Illustrator, Audition, and Topaz Ai
Working knowledge of Houdini, Blender, Zbrush, Fusion, Figma, and OBS is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint
Good organization and communication (written and oral) skills
Good interpersonal skills with a desire to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Account, Strategy, and Project Management
Degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, Communication Arts, Biomedical Visualization, or equivalent experience
Portfolio demonstrates exceptional strategic/conceptual thinking and creative execution
6 or more years of industry experience

Pay Range: $120,00.00-$135,000.00

This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, skills, certifications, and geographical location.
