Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree in Aviation Science, Aviation Management, or related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in airport maintenance operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; Federal Communication Commission (FCC) License and Airfield Certification preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to assist the Airport Manager in the oversight and management of all airport operations

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assists in the divisional functions and operations, including planning and informing the budget, and accomplishing divisional goals and objectives

Supervises assigned staff, including establishing workloads, prioritizing work assignments, evaluating employee performance, interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures, resolving staff conflicts, and administering disciplinary action as required.

Oversees the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and structural systems for Airport facilities. Supervises and maintains runways, taxiways, lighting systems, and ramps, including maintaining and repairing runway-end identifier lights (REIL).

Oversees and performs preventative maintenance and repair duties within the Airport.

Reads and interprets building blueprints and airfield engineering plans in the performance of duties related to building and airfield lighting system maintenance.

Assists in reviewing and recommending the selection of service contractors and supply vendors for Airport maintenance activities.

Recommends the purchase of equipment and supplies related to Airport operations and maintenance.

Assists with oversight of the execution of repair and renovation construction projects.

Assists in the interpretation and making recommendations for technical upgrades or solutions to facility system failures.

Responds to airport emergencies and directs emergency responders in accordance with airport safety plan.

Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations and guidelines.

Coordinates airport operations, projects and development with Air Traffic Control, airport tenants, county, state and federal officials.

Consults with federal, state, local, and private agency officials on airfield construction and repair projects.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

Other Requirements:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as temperature/weather extremes, toxic/poisonous agents, smoke /dust/pollen, wetness/humidity, animals/wildlife, electrical currents, bright/dim lights, noise extremes, vibrations, machinery, and traffic hazards.
