JOB SUMMARY:
Assistant Controller functions include, but are not limited to, creating and implementing policies and procedures, leading the compliance process, co-leading the labor management process, assisting with the audit and budget processes, producing monthly Member/Guest billing and supervising the accounting generalist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES and other duties as may be assigned related to this position.
Leads with a continuous process improvement mindset working with all departments on improvements in their processes, cost savings opportunities and revenue generating ideas.
Responsible for the creation and implementation of finance related policies and procedures.
Implements and leads the compliance process to include the creation and use of a self-assessment questionnaire to ensure all areas of the club are complying and able to pass the annual external audit.
Reconciles all bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis for the Club's three companies.
Co-lead the labor management process and meetings.
Supervises accounting generalist and serves as primary backup for AP, Income Audit, General Cashier and F&B cost control functions.
Assist with annual audit.
Assist with budget preparation.
Review and process guest fees and employee fund activity.
Prepares and records all outlet deposits, credit card charges and other monies received in the Accounting Department. Ensures cash reconciliation form is forwarded to Controller.
Processes all Member payments into NorthStar.
Performs month end closing procedures: reviews employee and department accounts, review and investigate all credit balances, reviews all accounts for minor balances that could be adjusted, and bills interest.
Fields all Member and guest inquiries, adjusts or forwards the inquiry to the proper department for verification and possible credit.
Maintains and analyzes current aging and performs collection duties when necessary, including sending delinquency letters.
Assists in the financial monthly closing and prepares account reconciliations and analysis, including but not limited to guest fees, concessions, cover counts, F&B, etc.
Serves as accounts payable primary backup and assists in invoice review and check processing.
Protect Club assets, Members, guests and coworkers, and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
Other duties as assigned by Controller or CFO.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Club's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems both internal and external.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience and minimum five years previous experience required performing functions of the job; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be team oriented and have effective communication skills. Excellent typing, computer (excel, word, outlook) skills required. Previous Club and NorthStar experience preferred.
