Reporting to the Director, Project Accounting, Marcon Construction is seeking a skilled Assistant Controller to oversee the day-to-day activities of a portfolio of construction projects and corporate entities to ensure timely reporting and sound financial management. This role will require a leader with strong analytical skills, process improvement expertise, and the ability to collaborate across departments. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and a high level of professionalism in executing the assigned responsibilities.

About The Role
Financial Operations Management:
- Lead the execution of core financial processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.
- Monitor and manage financial transactions to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
- Oversee and maintain project accounting records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and analyze job cost reports, ensuring alignment with budgets and forecasts.
- Support financial planning and cost management for active development projects.
- Assist in reviewing and approving trade contractor and vendor invoices, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
- Manage progress billing, holdbacks, and lien releases to ensure proper cash flow.
- Track and report financial performance on a project-by-project basis, ensuring consistency with company goals.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting for construction projects.
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and external regulatory requirements.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and intercompany transactions.
- Support tax filings, including GST, PST, and corporate tax preparation.
- Assist in managing cash flow, banking and financial planning activities.
- Undertake additional duties or projects as assigned periodically.
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization:
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement best practices to improve operational efficiency.
- Partner with department leads to align financial operations with broader business objectives.
- Work closely with project managers and site teams to monitor construction costs and identify variances.
Team Support & Development:
- Mentor and guide Accounting Administrators, providing coaching, training, and troubleshooting support to enhance their skills and ensure accuracy in financial processes.
- Act as a resource for problem-solving, assisting the team in resolving accounting challenges and improving efficiencies in day-to-day operations.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, ensuring Accounting Administrators have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in their roles.
About You
- CPA designation.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in construction accounting.
- Strong knowledge of construction cost control, and project financial management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement initiatives
- Great communication and attention to detail skills
- Experience with Yardi Elevate and Procore software systems.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial reporting tools.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Leadership potential with a long-term interest in advancing within the organization.
