The Assistant County Attorney represents the Department of Human Services in dependency and neglect, mental health, alcohol and related cases; appears as the attorney for the Department of Human Services in delinquency, truancy and related matters. Advises the Department of Human Services on legal issues related to these cases.

Duties
- Represents State of Colorado or Department of Human Services in court proceedings, including trials.
- Advises Department employees on legal issues related to representation in court.
- Prepares pleadings and other legal documents for court filings in a timely fashion.
- Works with paralegals to prepare cases for court proceedings.
- Complies with legal requirements for attorney-client relationship.
REQUIREMENTS:
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Knowledge of legal research techniques and ability to effectively and accurately conduct legal research on wide range of topics.
- General knowledge of relevant legal principles applicable to local government practice, knowledge of Colorado statutes, court rules, rules of evidence and rules of ethics.
- Ability to use a personal computer for e-mail, calendaring, word processing and to conduct legal research.
- Ability to investigate and process factual information effectively, and to apply legal rules to factual situations accurately.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively when faced with a high volume of work and multiple deadlines, frequent interruptions, and dealing with difficult individuals.

Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctorate Degree with license to practice law in Colorado
- 3+ years of experience in the practice of law

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
- Possession of a valid Class "R" Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
Post-Employment Requirements:
- Will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.
