Job Description
Reporting to the Dean of University College, the Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning will strategize, coordinate, expand, assess, and track the work being done by the University's Dynamic Strategy on Experiential Learning. The position will work with campus constituents (e.g., faculty, staff, students), existing internal academically-focused programs and extend academic offerings through outreach to companies/agencies that could be part of the academic experiential learning activities for undergraduate students. The position will support efforts to innovate and integrate experiential learning within and across curricula, facilitate collaboration between units that provide curricular and co-curricular experiences across the university. This position will supervise the offices associated with academic experiential learning. These include but are not limited to global opportunities (study away/abroad), community engagement, academic experiential learning opportunities and programmatic areas that will emerge from the strategic plan work groups.
Primary accountabilities include:
1. Lead and strengthen Ohio University's infrastructure around experiential learning through tracking, strategy, assessment, and collaboration. In particular, strategize with units inside University College and outside (e.g., Vice President for Research [undergraduate research], Division of Student Affairs [leadership]). Collaborates with UC constituents and campus leadership to provide strategy and analysis around new experiential learning programs, projecting, maintaining, monitoring, analyzing, and ensuring accountability and viability related to student success, enrollment projections, reporting, complex analysis, approvals, and financial strategic planning.
2. Oversee the programmatic areas under "Experiential Learning" within University College. Give guidance to experiential learning, community engagement, and global opportunities. Support the enhanced use of evidence-based practices regarding academic enhancement related activities to students, parents, faculty and staff. Collaborate with academic units to expand portfolio of experiential learning opportunities and enhance proficiencies in experiential pedagogies. Train staff and partners on best practices of experiential education, including principles for ethical experiential engagement. Contribute to the implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of experiential components in BRICKS general education. Facilitate the development and implementation plan for experiential learning.
3. Pursue external funding to support experiential learning opportunities for students. Engage with the University College Dean and Division of Advancement for developing and executing a strategy for fundraising and alumni connections with experiential learning. Develop and administer university-wide awards and recognition for experiential learning.
4. Supervise the Director of Community Engagement, Director of Global Opportunities, and Director of Experiential Curriculum Integration. Develop and implement strategies for team accountability.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree
At least 9 years work experience
At least 6 years of management experience
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral Degree would be advantageous for consulting with graduate units to discuss appropriate experiential learning opportunities.
