ABOUT THE ROLE

The Assistant Director of Education supports the Program Director in managing day-to-day operations to help ensure high-quality, accessible, and responsive services for clients. This role may take the lead on specific program initiatives, teams, or content areas. The Assistant Director provides leadership and guidance to staff, supports direct client and family services, and collaborates with community partners to enhance overall client care.

Seneca's Maya Angelou Academy is a non-public school that provides special education services to students grades K-5 with a variety of emotional, behavioral and/or social needs. We offer individualized attention and direct instruction in core subjects to help students progress toward their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals, while aligning with a general education, standards-based curriculum. The goal of our specialized services is to address the behavioral, emotional and developmental challenges of each student in order to prepare them for a less restrictive educational setting. At the same time, we provide a rich learning environment to support early academic development and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support the teachers team to create quality classroom instruction and implementation of student supports services
  • Collaborate with district partners to align educational services and support student success
  • Facilitate and manage IEP meetings, ensuring coordination and implementation of specialized services in accordance with student needs
  • Collaborate with the Director and school-based teams to support the day-to-day operations and overall educational quality of the program
  • Lead instructional initiatives and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen academic and behavioral outcomes
  • Supervise and support teachers, education staff, and program managers through hiring, coaching, and performance evaluations
  • Cultivate a safe, inclusive, and learning-focused school culture grounded in Seneca's values and the principles of Unconditional Care
  • Partner with school districts, county offices, and community agencies to align services and promote student success
  • Monitor program data, including IEP progress and academic benchmarks, to guide instructional planning and decision-making
  • Support facilities and classroom environments to ensure they are safe, engaging, and conducive to student learning
  • Apply crisis communication and de-escalation strategies using Seneca's Equilibrium model
    • May include physical intervention when necessary (training such as CPI may be required)


Qualifications
  • Master's level of education in social services, social work, or public policy preferred; a bachelor's degree with relevant experience may be considered in place of a master's
  • Experience as a school program administrator strongly preferred
  • Demonstrate record of effective leadership of other adults
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies' insurance policy

Schedule
  • School based schedule:
    • Monday to Friday: 8 AM - 4:30 PM (with occasional flexibility based on program needs)
  • 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and 14 paid school break days

Benefits
  • Starting at $92,401 - $106,401 annually
    • Actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications
