Cherry Hospital, a State Psychiatric Hospital serving the eastern region of North Carolina, is recruiting for a Nurse Director I (Assistant Director of Nursing) position. Class Concept Employees in this class are responsible for the direction, administration, and supervision of specific service areas. Employees have complete responsibility for independently planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the quality of system-wide nursing care delivered through the organization. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer. This position will assist the Chief Nursing Officer in establishing goals and developing systems to accomplish 24 hours a day nursing care hospital wide. Position has 24-hour accountability for oversight/direction of nursing services for several patient care units in collaboration with unit nurse managers. This position leads or is a member of various committees/groups and participates in multiple projects.

**As a condition for continued employment: must successfully pass all required parts of CPI's Non-Violent Crisis Intervention course and CPR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations and accrediting agencies governing their specific program and/or agency/facility
  • Considerable knowledge of standards and practices regarding their specific programs and or agency/facility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personnel procedures including recruitment, performance appraisal, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and address quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for the specific program
  • Demonstrated ability to write and present reports to management and administration

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and five years of nursing experience, including three years of experience in a Nurse Supervisor capacity.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

"A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
