ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES (Weston High School)

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, School Psychology, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in special education, counseling, or pupil services.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to education and pupil services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Leadership and team collaboration abilities.
  • Understanding of diverse student populations and their needs.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Hold or be eligible for Connecticut Intermediate Administration and Supervision certification (endorsement 092).
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education ("the Board") may find appropriate.


Job Goal
  • Support the well-being and academic success of students within an educational institution
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents, and external agencies to address the diverse needs of students, including those related to special education, counseling, and other pupil services

Responsibilities

Special Education Coordination:
  • Collaborate with special education staff to ensure compliance with legal regulations, individualized education plans (IEPs), and the provision of appropriate services for students with special needs.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services.

Counseling and Mental Health:
  • Oversee counseling services to support students' social-emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with counselors, psychologists, and social workers to address students' mental health needs.
  • Implement strategies to promote a positive school climate and prevent behavioral issues.

Student Support Services:
  • Coordinate interventions and support services for at-risk students
  • Work with teachers and staff to identify and address factors impacting student attendance, behavior, and academic performance

Parent and Community Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to address student's academic and social-emotional needs
  • Organize workshops and informational sessions to engage parents in their children's education

Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Utilize data to assess the effectiveness of pupil services programs
  • Prepare reports for school administrators and district officials on student outcomes and program effectiveness

Compliance and Policy Implementation:
  • Stay informed about state and federal regulations related to pupil services
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, policies, and procedures

Professional Development:
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for school staff related to pupil services
  • Stay current on best practices and trends in education and pupil services

Terms of Employment:

This shall be a 12-month position with a competitive salary.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Pupil Services in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's evaluation policy and procedures.
