SUMMARY:

This Assistant General Counsel position will focus on supporting the Prairie Island Indian Community's gaming entity - Treasure Island Resort & Casino. Contract drafting, review and negotiation, as well as providing general business legal advice, are the main components of this position. To fill this role, the Legal Department is looking for an enthusiastic, can-do attorney ready to take on a robust transactional practice for the existing tribal enterprise and work with our wonderful team of supportive professionals. This Assistant General Counsel will work under the guidance of the General Counsel in the Legal Department, however the ideal candidate will take on primary responsibility for commercial representation of Treasure Island Resort & Casino.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.
Provide legal advice and services to Treasure Island Resort & Casino including legal advice and representation in all aspects of business and governance.
Draft, review, revise and negotiate contracts for all Treasure Island Resort &Casino departments.
Work with regulators and respond to outside inquiries.
Conduct legal research and analysis, and provide legal representation in proceedings.
Attend various meetings on behalf of the Legal Department.
Work directly with the Community Council on matters related to the gaming operation.
Assist Treasure Island Resort & Casino staff in developing policies based on legal requirements, implications, and precedents.
Provide legal advice and representation on employment and human resources matters.
Provide legal advice and guidance on legal and regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
Assist in developing new electronic contract review process for gaming operations.
Assist and advise Tribal Government departments on legal matters as needed.
Attend conferences, educational courses and training, to maintain professional growth and development and improve professional competence.
Adhere to Community law and other applicable laws, as well as Community personnel policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Must possess Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school
Must be a Member of the Minnesota State Bar and licensed to practice law in the state of Minnesota
Minimum five (5) years of legal experience with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: gaming, information technology, contract drafting, human resources, tribal business and/or government
Experience in advising business client
Must have experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex contracts
Understanding of tribal sovereignty and tribal jurisdictional matters
Must gain admission to practice law before the Community's tribal Court
Ability to conduct legal and general research that is accurate and thorough
Ability to provide accurate, useful, and understandable information and reliable legal advice
Excellent capacity to organize and establish priorities
Must display positive attitude and team-focused mentality, and the ability to work well within the existing team structure.
Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and meet firm deadlines
Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
Strong written and oral advocacy skills required
Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure
Sensitive to Native American Culture
Must pass drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check
Must adhere to all policies and procedures of the Prairie Island Tribal Government
Valid driver's license and proof of insurability

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*
Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking

REQUIRED TRAINING:
Effectively Handling Harassment training
Any position-related training as determined by department manager

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position is eligible for hybrid/remote status, subject to approval by the department manager and within the requirements of the position. Attendance at regular in-person meetings is a requirement of this position.
Work is performed primarily in an office or remote setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
