UW Medical Center-Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a Night Shift Assistant Nurse Manager to join us in our Long Term Civil Commitment Unit. The Long Term Civil Commitment Unit is part of UW Medicine's Center for Behavioral Health and Learning - a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive facility designed to transform the way we approach mental health care.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Night shifts
40 hours per week
The anticipated work schedule is two 12 hour shifts per week, one 8 hour shift per week, and 8 hours of paid administrative time per week
Rotating weekend availability required

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Our Long Term Civil Commitment Unit is designed to support involuntary admits who require extended periods of care, including those requiring multi-month stays. Our services will include highly structured psychiatric care, services for patients with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and programs that promote independent functioning and transition to the community. The unit will have 75 beds available for intake and will play a key role providing person-centered care in a positive clinical environment. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a one-of-a-kind team.
ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND LEARNING
The new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning, opening on the UW Medical Center - Northwest campus in 2024, offers an unparalleled opportunity to transform mental health care and to improve mental health care training in our state. Located in NW Seattle, the new facility will feature 75 longer-term adult psychiatry beds, 25 geriatric psychiatry beds, 50 medical/surgical beds focused on patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and a state-of-the-art neuromodulation program. It will also house an interdisciplinary training and workforce development program focused on preparing and supporting the next generation of behavioral health providers for Washington State. The six-story building will be a beautiful place to work with lots of windows, natural lighting and open-concept spaces and will offer amenities including a new kitchen and dining area for patients, staff and visitors.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as a shift supervisor, responsible for clinical functions, staffing assignments, and care coordination
Acts as the main onsite leadership when the Nurse Manager is not present
Collaborates with Nurse Manager on day-to-day operations
Performs patient intakes, evaluations, and assessments
Oversees patient placement and throughput
Plans, implements, and evaluates unit orientation for clinical staff (RNs and CNAs)
Plans and implements educational offerings to enhance the delivery of care
Fosters clinical excellence and incorporates clinical standards into daily practice
Participates in organizational committees, taskforces, and work groups
Provides performance feedback to the Nurse Manager during annual performance evaluations
Provides "just in time" feedback to staff regarding clinical performance, interpersonal team interactions, and patient communications
Responds appropriately to emergency situations and drills
Promotes practices and decisions that reduce human error and promote patient safety
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
2 years of current or recent nursing experience, including nursing experience in behavioral health
Previous charge or supervisory nursing experience
Active BLS
Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
