SALARY: $126,319-150,830. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar position. Promotion or transfer placements will be determined by percentage of increase and consideration of appropriate experience credit.

Responsibilities
Assist the principal to:
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of the instructional program for the school.
  • Interpret and implement board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Lead staff in development and implementation of district and building-level goals relating to cultural competency and student learning.
  • Lead staff, students, and the community in development and implementation of building-level goals focused on the high achievement of a diverse student body.
  • Set building-level priorities in the context of community and district priorities and the needs of diverse students/staff.
  • Establish a school climate which promotes equal opportunities for students, good conduct, and positive attitudes and values, and accept responsibility for the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students.
  • Participate in the screening, selection, orientation, training, assignment, and reassignment of school staff.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of all assigned building personnel and engage staff in the development of professional growth activities designed to support individual school/district goals and programs in order to improve student learning.
  • Assist in the development, ongoing improvement, and implementation of the district and school curricular program in support of a safe and academically rigorous learning environment for a diverse student body.
  • Assist in coordinating the school's extracurricular program.
  • Supervise the maintenance and operation of the building, grounds, and property assigned to the building.
  • Plan and develop the school's budget with input from staff, allocate and adjust fiscal and material resources, assure timely completion of reports, and record maintenance for all school programs.
  • Provide for effective staff communication--collaborate and resolve conflicts with others.
  • Work cooperatively with other administrators and other appropriate district supervisors of progress, problems, and other information regarding the school's program.

  • The candidate will also:
  • Be aware of the details and undercurrents in the running of the school and use this information to address current and potential problems.
  • Establish a set of culturally responsive standard operating procedures and routines in assigned areas.
  • Ensure that staff are aware of the most current theories and practices relating to the instruction of a diverse student body and make the discussion of these a regular aspect of the school's culture.
  • Collaborate with a commitment to continuous professional learning by reading, learning, and studying about the conditions resulting in high academic achievement for all students, and applying new knowledge throughout all practices.
  • Participate in the screening, selection, orientation, training, assignment, and reassignment of school staff.
  • Be a contributing, effective member of the school and district leadership teams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources to administer, review, and interpret state and federal statutes and district policies and procedures for building administrators and staff.
  • Assist in the development, ongoing improvement, and implementation of the district and school curricular programs.

  • Qualifications

  • A Washington State principals' credential, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Five years successful credentialed experiences including a minimum of three years in a teaching or ESA position. Experience in an urban school setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in high school setting; experience in the design and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective instruction, assessment, and socially just practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in supervision, evaluation, and the ability to work effectively with teachers to improve instruction using data to drive decision-making.
  • Knowledge and understanding of state academic learning standards and grade level expectations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the change process and its relationship to current trends in current high school education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, scheduling, and allocating resources, reaching logical conclusions and making high-quality decisions using appropriate decision-making processes, and accepting responsibility for actions and consequences.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in using computer technologies to enhance instruction and to manage building functions.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness representing the school in the community as an advocate and spokesperson for all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing equal opportunities to all staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability in utilizing culturally responsive strategies to work effectively with administrators and teachers to improve classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an environment that focuses on quality results while motivating, developing, and supporting a diverse staff, encouraging continuous improvement, and working effectively as a member of a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect progress monitoring techniques (walkthroughs, assessment results, classroom observations, rounds) to the design, implementation and evaluation of the School Improvement Process.
  • Demonstrated success in exercising good judgment, insight, self-awareness, integrity, and cultural responsiveness when interacting with diverse employee groups, students, staff, parents, patrons, and business partners of the school district.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to continue one's own lifelong learning, to develop talent and leadership skills in others, to provide critical feedback, and to receive critical feedback in order to maintain high standards for one's self and the organization.

  • Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  • Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.
