Assistant Professor - Clinical - Department of Emergency Medicine

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor - Clinical - Department of Emergency Medicine at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Ensure excellence in toxicology education. Deliver the highest quality graduate medical education to medical students, residents and toxicology fellows as well as to faculty physicians.

Provide Toxicology Rotation orientation lectures, deliver toxicology lectures. Be responsible for content and delivery of education to rotators and ensure rotators complete rotation requirements.

Develop content and oversee creation of online asynchronous learning component.

Work with medical toxicology group and media specialist to translate content to content delivery system. Supervise and provide feedback for Medical Toxicology Fellows via New Innovations (or whatever platform DMC GME recommends).

Attend weekly fellow teaching.

Participate in and support the academic and research activities of the department. Participate in toxicology research, including original investigation, data reviews and publications in peer reviewed journals.

Serve on department and professional committees on a local, regional and/or national level. Attend WSU Department of Emergency Medicine faculty meetings.

Attachment as Assistant Medical Director

Assist Medical Director in oversight of all aspects of the daily clinical operations of the Poison Center and oversee educational activities.

Maintain regulatory compliance of Poison Center with local, state, and federal governing bodies. Work to maintain Poison Center
national accreditation.

Actively participates in Medical Toxicology organizations, research, and poison center activities.

Review and update clinical treatment guidelines, develop, maintain and implement operational policies and standard operating procedures.

Coordination and participation in local, state, regional and federal activities relating to Hazardous Materials and/or Chemical, Biological, Explosive, Radiologic, and nuclear events and training.

Working with local, state, regional, and federal agencies in providing surge capacity and coordination for potential epidemics and chemical releases.

Participates in active surveillance for ongoing drug trends and biochemical surveillance. Interact with media and provide as needed

Provide mentoring and advocate for medical toxicology fellows.

Oversee and participate in education of health care providers and Specialists in Poison Information. This includes residents, medical students, pharmacy residents, physician's assistance and PharmD candidates.

Unique duties:

Qualifications:

Medical degree and residency training in Emergency Medicine with Fellowship in Medical Toxicology.

Knowledge and training in Medical Toxicology, addiction medicine, and education.
