Department: Mathematical and Computational Sciences
Reports to: Dean of the College of Science and Health
Status: Full-Time, Benefit Eligible
Rate: $90,000-100,000 annually
Location: Lisle
Position Summary:
Benedictine University invites applicationsfor a Tenured or Tenure-Track Faculty appointment as Assistant Professor ofComputer Science. The position involves teaching undergraduate computer sciencecourses in-person at the Lisle campus and online, starting in Fall 2025. We are planning to expand our computer scienceprogram into Software Development, and Cybersecurity.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitmentto excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Teaching assignments willrange across the major, from the foundational computer programming sequence toupper-level electives. Successful candidates will actively contribute to thesuccess of the program by participating in curriculum development, assessmentactivities and recruiting events. Candidates will also be expected to design ahigh-quality research program that can actively recruit and engageundergraduate students; although we welcome all areas of research, those whoseresearch is in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning or Cybersecurity areparticularly encouraged to apply. Participationin department and college meetings as well as providing academic and careeradvising to undergraduate students is expected.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Earned Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field is required
* Experience in the software development lifecycle is required.
* A clear research plan, including how to involve undergraduate students in research, is required. Industry experience in software development is preferred.
* Prior teaching experience in higher education is highly desirable.
* Ability to teach cognate mathematics courses such as Discrete Mathematics is preferred, but not required.
Specific Skills: Proficiency in Java and C++ programming languages is required; additional proficiency in Python is desirable.
Physical Requirements: May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must reach, bend, stoop, lift. Must sit, walk or stand for long periods of time. Ability to handle varying levels of stress while maintaining professional demeanor. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather.
Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of another person.
