Job Description
San Bernardino Valley College is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a majority of our students identifying themselves as either African-American/Black or Latinx. At the heart of the Inland Empire, SBVC is a driving factor to improve the lives of our students, their families, and our communities. We are seeking individuals to join our History department that are fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-centered environment.
This posting is to fill one (1) full-time, tenure track position teaching in the History department.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Dean of Social Sciences, Human Development and Physical Education, teach a full contract load of courses in the Department of History, will participate in curriculum development and serve on division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional programs; participate in appropriate professional development and other divisional activities. Faculty positions may require work to be performed during evenings and/or weekends.

1. Provides instruction and mentorship to students pursuing degrees in History.
2. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
3. Participate and collaborate in history team, department, and division meetings

5. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, and general institutional needs
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in history OR
Bachelor's degree in history AND Master's in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science or ethnic studies
OR the equivalent
Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
Desired Qualifications
1) A minimum of two (2) full years teaching experience at the community college level.
2) Two (2) years experience in the development of new curriculum.
3) Two (2) years experience demonstrating ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, college administration, intercollegiate athletic coaches and various on campus and off-campus constituencies.
4) Strong academic preparation in history with an emphasis in African American history as evidenced

Term Life and Accidental, Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance - The district provides a $50,000 basic term life insurance policy and $50,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) policy. The district pays the full cost of this coverage. Coverage is automatic and effective on the first of the month after your date of hire. Employees are also provided opportunity to enroll in optional term life and AD&D policies for themselves as well as spouse/domestic partner and children.
VOLUNTARY BENEFIT PLANS
The district partners with American Fidelity to administer the district's voluntary benefit plans which include:
PRE-TAX RETIREMENT SAVINGS PLAN - As a district employee, you have two voluntary retirement savings plans available to you, which allow you to invest pre-tax dollars to supplement your CalPERS Retirement Plan benefit. They are a 403(b) plan or 457(b) plan.
