Assistant Professor of Cyber Threat Intelligence

The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Gupta College of Science at Coastal Carolina University invite applications for a full-time assistant professor (tenure-track) position in Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI). This is a joint position between the Departments of Intelligence and Security Studies and the Department of Computing Sciences. The Department of Intelligence and Security Studies will serve as the home department. For this position, CTI focuses on gathering, analyzing, and interpreting information about potential cybersecurity threats, enabling organizations to understand and mitigate risks. The successful applicant will be appointed to a full-time, nine-month position beginning in August 2025.

Preference will be given to applicants with broad training and/or expertise in cyber security, data analytics, and/or intelligence topics who can contribute to a new cyber threat intelligence program within our university's curriculum. This program synthesizes the broad range of technical and human factors underlying computer networks and associated malign actors. Understanding of information warfare and artificial intelligence is desirable. The ability to offer courses in cybersecurity, programming, cyber threat intelligence, emerging technologies, counterintelligence, and other areas of departmental need is of particular interest. Professional experience in the field is welcome but not required.

Required qualifications for this position include: An earned doctorate in cybersecurity, computer science, data science, data analytics, intelligence and/or security studies, political science, or a closely related field (ABD will be considered if completion is scheduled by August 2025). Additionally, to teach in the department for which the candidate does not hold a doctorate, they must have completed at least 18 graduate hours or possess alternative professional qualifications. Candidates with alternative professional qualifications will be considered when such qualifications demonstrate equivalent research competence in the field in question.

Desired qualifications for this position include: A record of excellence in university teaching, service, and consistent scholarly research; Potential for developing curriculum and other educational opportunities to support academic programming; A record of excellence in mentoring, supporting, and advising undergraduate students; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Experience in distance or online course delivery.

The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts is a diverse college with approximately 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students. It offers 23 undergraduate majors and 4 graduate programs in 10 departments, including degrees in interdisciplinary studies, communication, the humanities, and the fine and performing arts. The Intelligence and Security Studies Department was established in 2021 and is one of the top undergraduate programs in the field. This new department originates from a highly successful major program that has been in operation since 2012 at CCU. Today this program has grown to approximately 300 majors and is known for the strong placement record of its graduates and its established partnerships with federal government organizations.

The Gupta College of Science works to provide a premier and experience-driven STEM education to all of its students. The college's approach weaves together a strong liberal arts core, engaged STEM pedagogy, and high-impact practices associated with experiential learning to provide the highest quality STEM education possible. As one of the largest colleges at the University, the Gupta College of Science offers an impressive array of 13 distinctive undergraduate degree programs, 15 focused concentrations, and 18 minors along with two master's degree programs and one doctoral program. The college is committed to providing our students and faculty with cutting-edge scientific equipment, instrumentation, and marine vessels for both teaching and research purposes. In total, the college has nine different marine vessels, which includes a 54-ft. aluminum vessel with an A-frame. The Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies within the Gupta College of Science also offers the potential for collaboration with faculty engaged in related coastal and marine research issues. The University manages the Waites Island Anne Tilghman Boyce Coastal Reserve, an undeveloped complex of ocean frontage, fresh and saltwater marshes, tidal creeks, and upland forests, that provides a living laboratory for both teaching and research opportunities.

Four academic programs within the Gupta College of Science have earned accreditation through the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET and the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Duties

  • Teaches students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio.
  • Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
  • Conducts research to create and add to knowledge in a field or produces creative work. Trains students in related research techniques and in creative production.
  • Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
