Job Description
  • Teach creative writing courses in multiple genres, as well as composition and literature courses.
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs, which includes physical presence on campus.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
  • Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.


Minimum Qualifications
  • MFA in Creative Writing or related field with focus on fiction and/or poetry.
  • College teaching experience

Preferred Qualification
  • PhD in English, Creative Writing, or closely related field.
  • Substantive experience, concentrated coursework, and/or demonstrated expertise in creative writing, with a strong preference for experience in multiple genres.
  • Experience with and commitment to community engagement, such as coordinating and hosting literary reading series on campus.
  • Experience/coursework/demonstrated expertise in literature and composition.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in creative writing courses.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in composition.
  • Strong writing skills, as reflected in teaching materials and other application materials.
  • Scholarly/creative achievement in area of specialization.
  • Evidence of professional activities and service.
  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.

Salary Range: $64,066 - $186,015; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
