Position Title: Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor, Information Systems & Supply Chain Management

Position Description

Applications are invited in the field of business and digital analytics. A study of business analytics, an important capability for companies operating in competitive markets. Topics include collecting, importing, exporting, organizing, and optimizing data and creating and managing data frames. Statistical software and data visualization tools are used to make informed data-driven decisions, solve real-world problems, and increase productivity and efficiency.

Howard University (HU) is located in Washington DC. Founded in 1867, it is recognized as the premier HBCU (historically black college or university). The Business School was established in 1970 and was the first AACSB accredited school in DC. The IS and SCM department has been catering to students majoring in information systems or supply chain management. It has been offering a concentration in Supply Chain Management (SCM) in the MBA program since 2001 and now about 1/3 of MBAs choose that concentration. In the undergraduate pool, currently about 100 students identify themselves as SCM majors and approximately 150 identify as IS majors.

For Tenure-Track Positions, applicants should meet the following requirements:
  • Have (or near to) completion of a Ph.D. with a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement and significant experience in Business Analytics, Decision Sciences, Management Science, Operations Research, Quantitative Methods, Statistics, Analytics or a related quantitative field.
  • The candidate should have a research agenda in one or more of the following: Applied Statistics, Probabilistic Machine Learning, and Methods of Artificial Intelligence.
  • Experience in one or more of the following research areas: Stochastic Processes, Probabilistic Machine Learning, Bayesian methods, Deep Learning, Stochastic Optimization.
  • Experience in one or more of the following teaching areas: time series analysis, data mining, computational statistics.
  • Evidence of effective teaching at business college level.
  • Experience in teaching at business college graduate level.
  • Industry consulting experience in analytics.
  • Evidence of effective teaching online/hybrid courses.
  • Track record/potential for publications in peer-reviewed high-quality journals.
  • Experience/potential in securing external funding.
  • Be able to undertake quality research to establish a record of refereed publications in recognized journals.
  • Ability to play a significant role in research projects, particularly to provide leadership for an academic team, develop the research skills of existing staff, attract external research grants, and supervise higher degree research students.
  • Demonstrate excellence and innovation in quality teaching.
  • Exhibit outstanding communication and teaching skills.
  • Prior teaching experience in analytics, business intelligence, and managerial statistics.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Preferably 3 years' experience in the business analytics industry.
