The McGill University Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Mark Wainberg Centre for Viral Diseases in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in partnership with the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI) at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) is inviting applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Research) in the dynamic field of fundamental immunology at the interface of host-virus interactions. The role includes establishing an independent research program, supervising students, and the possibility of obtaining memberships in additional departments alongside the primary appointment. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a productive independent research program that aims to understand and discover mitigating strategies of viral diseases through elucidating the complex host responses to viral infections, which may include but not be limited to: - Emerging and pandemic viruses; - Innate immune responses; - Antibody responses; - Cellular immune responses; - Immuno-metabolism; - Genomic/proteomic aspects of host response; - Host-microbe interactions.The successful candidate will be appointed for a three-year, renewable term within the McGill University, Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Should the position be renewed, it will then be considered for long-term ongoing support, following the McGill academic evaluation process (Assistant to Associate to Full Professorship). They will also be provided a competitive startup package and structured mentorship to support the launching of their research program.The successful candidate will be expected to be an emerging research leader capable of launching independent research programs focused on fundamental immunology and the host response to viruses. The incumbent will also be expected to establish and carry out a cutting-edge and externally funded research program that integrates with existing strengths within the LDI and the Department Microbiology and Immunology. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students, residents, post-doctoral fellows, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate classroom-based teaching. McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.   • Have completed a PhD or M.D./Ph.D. in a related field;
  • Possess postdoctoral training in immunology, virology, host-pathogen interactions, or a related discipline;
  • Have evidence of research productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record of primary research articles;
  • Be poised to launch an exciting independent research program in the fields of immunology, virology, host-pathogen interactions;
  • Fluency in English is essential, a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment is preferred.
