Essential functions (job duties):

Works closely with the SVP and Health Affairs team to develop, align, and clearly articulate strategies and goals for the Division; Collaborates with deans and other leaders to operationalize the SVP's vision, creating synergy among the schools of the health sciences.

Manages the staff by providing overall leadership and direction including hiring, promotions, terminations, disciplinary actions, salary adjustments, ongoing performance feedback/coaching, goal setting, and development plans. Promotes open channels of communication to ensure the operations of the Division of Health Affairs run effectively and efficiently.

Coordinates the activities, plans, projects, requests/inquiries, and communications involving the SVP and their office. Oversees all internal communications with the SVP to ensure timely and appropriate responses and resolution. Provides advice and consultation to the SVP and other senior officials, as needed, on key matters. Exercises strong values related to integrity, trust, confidentiality, prudence, and discretion in handling all matters.

Supports the SVP in developing new roles and refining organizational structures to enhance efficiency and meet evolving needs.

Provides the SVP with routine reports on activities, KPIs, communications, and briefs the SVP on significant activities and engagements. Oversees and coordinates all meeting materials for the SVP.

Participates with the SVP and other senior officers in strategic planning and resolutions affecting the Division of Health Affairs, external partners, and other related parts of the University; ensures matters requiring the attention of leaders are thoroughly developed, researched, evaluated, and monitored through completion.

Creates and maintains a plan to cascade communications when representing the SVP on projects and in meetings; coordinates with Marketing & Communications and prepares presentations and other communications as needed.

Manages high-priority projects and programs designed to support the Division's goals and achieve its mission and strategic vision. Translates strategic and tactical business plans into operational plans. Monitors and reports on progress of strategic initiatives via dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs). Has latitude to make operational decisions within broadly defined parameters.

Gathers, investigates, researches, analyzes, and/or studies information affecting University-wide operations in conjunction with the department of Institutional Research; prepares reports and other communications on behalf of the SVPHA.

Works with the financial and technology leadership to develop plans and analyses related to a wide range of projects; may chair, lead, and/or participate on committees as a representative of the SVPHA.

Anticipates, identifies, and troubleshoots issues of concern or significance; exercises discretion to provide timely information and necessary updates; responds to inquiries as delegated by the SVPHA.

Provides consultative analysis, advice, and reports to University leadership at the direction of the SVP. Performs confidential matters for the SPVHA. Works with Human Resources on executive searches involving the SVP's direct reports. Monitors and review completion of special assignments by administrative units and make recommendations, as necessary.

Works closely with other senior leaders to prepare the SVP for meetings with key stakeholders and/or other interested parties.

Helps lead internal communications plans by working with marketing and communications associates to reinforce Health Affairs' strategic priorities and success across the four schools of the health sciences.

Builds and maintains successful working relationships with senior officials, external partners, and coordinates with a wide range of offices, staff, and stakeholders.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Unique duties:

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Health Affairs, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Operations & Strategic Initiatives for the Division of Health Affairs will have strong organizational, strategic, communication and analytical skills and be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the Division of Health Affairs. This office oversees the Health Science and Professional Schools, including the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the planned School of Public Health. The AVP manages the staff within the Division of Health Affairs and serves as the key point of contact for all activities, requests, programs and projects, reporting, and communications for the Senior Vice President. The AVP will coordinate and collaborate with University leaders on all matters involving the SVP and the operations of their areas including, but not limited to, monitoring and reporting on key goals, objectives, and metrics; and acts as a liaison with senior administrators, Deans, AVPs, schools/colleges and departments. The AVP provides operational and strategic direction and consultation to members of the Health Affairs Leadership Group and senior level officials that engage with the Division of Health Affairs. This role requires translating strategic and tactical plans into operational plans and participates in shaping of the mission objectives of the Division of Health Affairs. The AVP Actively participates in facilitating the university philosophy in areas that involve health and related areas by engaging in communicative, collaborative, and respectful relationships with those serving in leadership roles. Additionally, they manage special projects at the direction of the SVP. Ensures financial transactions are compliant with applicable regulations and University policies and procedures. They also oversee the office's engagement with other critical executive offices at the University and with external partners.
Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree

Master's degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, Public/Business Administration, or related field.

Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience)

A minimum of seven years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities. Experience in higher education at a senior level, managing a complex organization and working with leaders throughout the organization. Experience in planning and executing strategic plans, innovative operational solutions, providing sound judgment, and consultation to a variety of parties. Demonstrated strength and creative approach using software tools and technology to resolve problems.
