The Department of Health SciencesEducation and Pathology is seeking a Physiologist to join our teachingfaculty.
The primary focus for this positionis teaching general and systems physiology in the Illinois Medicine Curriculumwithin the undergraduate medical education program. The curriculum integrates basic, clinical andsocial sciences throughout all phases. The phase 1 curriculum is an integrated block design in undergraduatemedical years 1 and 2 with pathology taught throughout the blocks. Phase 2 and 3 are the clinical years with theopportunity to develop electives to further integrate the basic science in theclinical years.

Position Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver medical physiology and pathophysiology curriculum that incorporates clinically relevant principles using currently available technology, including educational modules, video, virtual reality, etc. to support the undergraduate medical curriculum.
- Employ multiple methods of pedagogy, including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning.
- Work collaboratively with faculty from other basic science/clinical science departments and across UI COM campuses to implement curriculum, including course schedules, materials, and exams.
- Develop, review, and modify formative and summative assessments, including NBME style multiple choice questions.
- Engage in medical education scholarship.
- Serve on selected department, campus and college committees or taskforces as requested/assigned.
- Facilitate a minimum of 3-4 core cases for each curriculum block either in large or small group.
- Serve in academic leadership roles (Block Lead, Block Director, Course Director)
- Provide an exemplar professional, safe learning environment for medical students
- Serve as an academic faculty student advisor during phase 1
- Collaborate to develop clinical electives and potential areas of integration into clinical rotations
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD, MD/DO or its foreign equivalent
- Experience in medical education with evidence of strong educational effectiveness
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting
- A demonstrated commitment to fostering a professional learning environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence in medical education
- Experience in the development and delivery of curricular materials
- Previous experience with administrative responsibilities in an educational or clinical setting.
- A record of scholarly activity in the area of physiology (and/or) medical education
