The Associate Athletic Director for Development leads fundraising efforts, stewardship activities, and fundraising-related communications for the Athletics division. Working with the Vice President for Athletics/AD and the Associate Vice President of Development, the Associate Director is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive development and stewardship strategy to increase annual and major gift contributions and build a culture of engagement and philanthropy among alumni, parents, and friends. The Associate Athletic Director for Development formally reports to the Vice President for Athletics/AD and has a dotted line supervision from the Associate Vice President of Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

Strategic Planning and Implementation
  • Work collaboratively with the Vice President for Athletics/AD and the Associate Vice President of Development to create a comprehensive and coordinated strategic plan for development and stewardship
  • In coordination with the Office of Prospect Research, work to identify new sources of potential philanthropic support with potential donors and to cultivate those sources via innovative and strategically planned outreach and stewardship development


Develop and manage major gift prospects
  • Maintain an active cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship schedule for major gift (five- and six-figure) prospects and donors, aiming for 15-20 targeted, quality personal visits each month
  • Collaborate with Athletics administration and coordinate with Advancement to cultivate and solicit leadership gifts, and maximize development opportunities
  • Develop, write, and submit major gift proposals


Manage development and stewardship for Athletics
  • Work with Spider Athletic Fund staff to maximize the number of annual donors and annual gift receipts for athletics.
  • Establish benchmarks and monitor progress to ensure staff meets programmatic, membership, and fundraising goals
  • Attend athletics meetings and divisional activities as well as selected meetings in advancement, maintain contact and proposal records, and provide regular activity reports to the Vice President for Athletics/AD and the Associate Vice President of Development


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Supervises Spider Athletic Fund staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

This position requires frequent travel as well as evening and weekend work in conjunction with University and Athletics-specific events and in support of end-of-calendar and fiscal year solicitation periods.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies, including alumni, faculty, colleagues, and staff
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including hiring, motivating, training, and managing a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills required, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects
  • Personal solicitation experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to use MS Office products and UR fundraising database tools.
  • Valid driver's license with a good three-year driving history


Education & experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five to seven years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education and athletics.
  • A proven record of staff management and major gifts fundraising is essential.


SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 10 Exempt Position with Full-time Benefits. (Hiring Range $86,154 to $118,456 annually)

Scheduled Hours: 38.75 hours per week. Monday through Friday, some evenings, and weekends required.
